  • Most critical review

    Doesn't work very well

My computers have a hard time finding the signal so it takes a few minutes for it to come on line. Also my printer cannot find it at all. The directions say that the printer needs to be link first by USB port and then it can be used wirelessly. The signal is good when it does finally come on line but I would look for a different manufacturer the next time I order one. This one is not practical.

  • Decent Router, but drops packets and connection

The router has impressive range and is capable of whole house coverage (depending on home size). Setup is easy, configuring advanced setting like routing, static IP, Port Forwarding was a breeze. My major issue with the device has been loss of connectivity over wireless and packet loss over lan connection. Wifi drops on multiple devices, so I assume the issue is not what I am connecting with, but the router. Bottom line is, it does work, but if your expectations are a trouble free router, look else where.

  • Print server function does not work - Correction - Print server works fine now

I ordered this router specifically for the print server function. However, once I plugged my printer into the USB 2.0 port, it was displayed on the basic network chart, but it does not show up in the printer control software. The printer is on the printer compatibility list. It just won't respond to the printer commands. As a router, however, it performs much better than my old Belkin G unit, which had started to drop connections regularly. Besides reaching my entire house, it gives very strong signal when measuring diagonally from one end of the first floor to the bedroom on the second floor at the far end of the house, probably 50 ft. or so. In its literature, TP_Link hypes its "beamforming" ability, and I would say that this function does seem to work. I also had the idea of using the USB 3.0 port for a HDD but after seeing some of the forum traffic, I'm not sure I want to try that yet. I will give the unit 5 stars once all the USB functions work. Update 11/17/2016 - My Bad! The print server function works fine. The problem was a partially deleted firewall program that didn't show up in the program list, or anywhere else, but continued to function. I discovered this by accident when running my desktop (wired) connection and seeing the printer displayed. I then checked the Windows Security Center, which had a note that I had two firewalls running simultaneously. It took a little tinkering to restore some of the deleted firewall files, but after that, the wireless printer showed up in the configuration program. As a result, I changed my rating to 5 stars.

  • Router created by serious people

I tried several wi-fi routers and finally found one I like: it was obviously created by people who know what they are doing. You cannot imagine how badly Netgear settings interface is designed, as compared to that of TP-LINK! The reason why I got a TP-LINK's Archer C8 was the alleged long range and the possibility of changing the antennas to more powerful ones. I did not even need to upgrade the antennas: the range was good enough, as compared to higher-speed Netgear and Belkin wi-fi routers.

  • Last firmware upgrade was 2015!

They obviously didn't care too much about this router and quit supporting it. I had nothing but problems with this router, even AFTER I found the "latest" firmware upgrade. The Archer C8 does NOT upgrade automatically: you have to download a file to your computer and then find that file and upgrade it manually. IPv6 isn't even an automatic process - you have to go into advance settings to turn it on. Th WiFi connection was constantly being reset. Never could get the print server to work right.

  • Very nice for the money.

I know just enough about the IT world to be dangerous. I knew my old router was on it's way out and my ISP confirmed that. I installed the the TP-Link 1750 Archer C8 and what a difference! I know it's just the first day but I am a very happy customer. I paid $50 for a new one on Ebay. installation was easy with the directions. I'm slow so it took about 20 minutes to set up. Will see how it is in the long run.

  • To my surprise, it works.

The product packaging was noticeably damp (but not the shipping box that contained it) -- even soft and disintegrating in places. But when removed, powered up, and connected, the router performed without issue and as expected. At roughly half the commercial price, I find it hard to complain, but still I feel the product description could have been more forthright (i.e. possible water damage). No hard feelings -- just feedback.

3 antenna ports seems to be much faster than standard free units from ISP

  • Range could be better but good for the money

Good enough for the money, not as good as an old TP Link C50 I had...
