Stood the test of time and combat (on the building site)!

This specific DeWalt model Combo Hammer drill was purchased as a replacement for what was my second DeWalt drill, that replaced the one I purchased more than 20 years ago that I used to build our house. This has been purchased as a replacement based on the outstanding performance of the previous 2 x DeWalt drills. I acknowledge this specific model has been out on the streets for a while and may be discontinued by DeWalt but it has, like the famous 'Bren Gun', stood the test of time and combat. This model is a significant improvement with improved capabilities with 3 speeds and it has a better ergonomic feel. The build is typically excellent, plus although initially thought as 'gimmicky' it has a powerful LED light that is now indispensable whatever the task. It is heavier than previous DeWalt combo drills and I like the addition of a removable handle for the heavier external tasks all manufactured to DeWalt's imperious design standards. I also purchased a power stack 5Ah from the same supplier but the jury is out for the time being. It performs brilliantly on the XR 5Ah /$Ah / 2Ah batteries I already own. Early days yet but typical DeWalt quality, design and performance. If it fails to meet expectations I will let you know, but suspect you wont be hearing from me. Highly recommended professional hand tool.

    Chuck failure dcd996

I've had 2 of the DeWalt dcd996n drills and many more other models. I love DeWalt for there durability and power but there chucks do not work right, tighten them up and 20 seconds later the drill bit just falls out, and the opposite too where the chuck is tightened and will not release the bit so I have to use channel locks to open the thing.

  • Such power in 18v

I already had a DeWalt 18volt drill but it used the old style batteries with a stalk. So I thought I would move on as I had other products which used the new shape batteries. Therefore, I thought I would buy a somewhat more powerful drill. What a difference. It's about the same weight but oodles more power and torque. Drilling the hoops for my new polytunnel was a breeze. Love it

  • The best drill I have ever owned.

You can feel the quality in this drill the moment you pick it up. I bought it as it is reputed to be their most powerful cordless drill and it certainly hasn't disappointed. You can feel the torque it creates the moment you start to drill and it is wise to use the steadying handle to ensure you don't get a wrist injury such is the power. The in built LED light is superb when working in dark corners and on torch mode is amazing. De Walt for me is certainly the Rolls Royce of drills.

  • Well made drill with a great speed range with plenty of power, Holywell Tools delivered next day too

From low speed to high speed it delivers loads of power. I opted for the fast charge unit because of its speed and its ability to charge up to 6Ah but be aware it wont fit in the case. I also bought a Genuine 3Ah & Copy 5Ah batteries separately Great quality product from De-Walt 👍

  • Very tough drill - Extremely well built

Very tough drill, bought as an upgrade from the 776, Chuck is good Light is really good Torque is very good indeed, Only down is the switch from forward to reverse is a little easy to press, the older switch was better. All in i'm confident this drill will last me for years and years to come.

  • Buy right

A really well designed (as expected from Dewalt) and very strong bit of kit. This was my second so have one with drill bit and as a screwdriver which it does really well. I use with 4AH battery which during a recent job lasted all day. Highly recommended bit of kit that will last.

  • Dewalt 996

This drill has more than enough power for most jobs. I use it regularly to drill 6, 8, 10 and 12mm holes through external walls for cabling. The only gripe is that it's a fair bit chunkier/heavier than my other Dewalt 709. But if you want the extra power that's the trade off.

  • Big Dewalt

Nice addition to my kit. Pretty versatile. Did what I'd use a SDS for to a point. Use an SDS for the really heavy stuff or chiseling. But this will go through most things with the right bit. Lighting excellent. Weight not too bad. I liked it .

  • Dewalt hard to beat

Most of my tools r dewalt and using every day have to say had the smaller 796 I think it was and it was good but the bigger 996 is a bit more expensive but when ur drilling timber with a 25mm wood bit or using it for large hole saws the bigger drill is the way to go no problem with power and doing them big jobs at her ease didn’t give 5 stars as only have it a month and will have to wait and c how it lasts but I think it should be ok and in my view it’s worth the extra money
