Why Windows 8.1 over Windows 10? 8.1 works. Be sure to download the Classic Shell Extension to have the classic Windows experience and the OS is genuinely superior to the newest version. I installed 8.1 as a "downgrade" from 10 and have enjoyed not having DCP_Watchdog_Violations ever since. One note: On 8th gen hardware, Windows have been lame and blocked updates, that in turn generates notifications every other minute. There's an easy fix for the issue, but it's worth knowing.
