It works, but it’s not a direct replacement.
This is not a direct factory replacement for a MS261 cylinder. The cooling fins are much larger and need to be ground off, in addition the engine cover also needs modified. The kit also did not come with any of the gaskets pictured but the factory steel gaskets can be reused. I would not buy it again but it will work if you’re on a tight budget.

Simple, cost effective set of spikes for the MS261
I bought this set of dogs (spikes) to fit my MS261. They fit fine on the body of the saw and the outer cover, mount up very solid, and I used loctite on the fasteners to be sure they would not disappear out in the timber. So far so good. Using that saw with a 20" bar for felling, these dogs help control your cuts during felling or sectioning off larger logs. They are coated nicely and the tips of the spikes will wear through the paint, but that's just part of having a well used saw. So far so good, reasonable price and would recommend to anyone getting serious about their pro-saw experience. The only downside was having to make slots in the transport case so they would fit, and also the saw doesn't sit level on the bottom now when on a hard surface. These are minor issues but you should recognize them beforehand if you are looking at a set like this.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Excellent Upgrade for Stihl MS261
These were purchased to replace the original wimpy stamped dogs. Orange powder coat is quality and looks stylish. These are thicker than the OEM, all edges are nice and clean, same with the torx screw mounting holes. An excellent upgrade for the money.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Felling dogs
The spikes work good after they have been modified. I have bought 3 different sets and all of them had the same problem. None of the spikes lined up with each other.
