SynopsisA stolen painting and a troubled bubblegum-blowing contest. Whenever there's a mystery to be solved, Encyclopedia Brown gets going. Idaville's favorite sleuth in sneakers is back with ten new cases to crack.
BRIEF SPOILERS HERE. NO CONCLUSION-JUMPING PLEASE. THIS IS REAL LIFE, NOT THE KID-FRIENDLY ZONE THIS SITE SAYS IT IS. To start, the illustrations are classic. Some of the mysteries don't hold up upon further scrutiny. Heck, 2 of the mysteries have the "culprits" convicted by counterfactual clues (i.e. roosters alleged 2 only crow when they see light even though real-life roosters do so whenever they want 2. Plus, the counterfactual clue that is supposed 2 trip up Maggie in the 5th mystery will leave those who know how tears flow from a person's eyes crying out "FOUL!" ). And then there are those who create half-cocked plans that end up just the way genre savvy and the smart expect them 2. (What did Lucy Fibbs expect when she left that fake book of pig care out in the open?) Some of the things the characters do (i.e. the ones who steal and cheat) will leave one wondering what kind of people run Idaville and what year it is. It can be that unbearable.
