Great value - easy to use
The Yaesu FT840 is a great rig especially when equipped with optional filters. It's good choice for as a first time rig, for rag chewing, general operation. Clean CW & exceptional phone operation. The receive audio is fantastic even on the built in speaker it provides easy listening arm charm sound. Only thing missing is RF Gain... at times it's good to be able to cut the gain when adjacent frequency signals are extra strong. TX without problems
This TX, yes a bit an older one, but meets all the requirements if you on the air in HF Bands. Selectivity is very good. I find the sound is much better than in newer ones. I work mostly in CW. Well built and easy to use.
It is compact, not too heavy, nice and clear display. Power output is very close to what was advertised. It would have been good if it also had 6M!.
