"OEM" = license can't be transferred

This is a legit Microsoft product, at least as pictured and for the auction I got this from. Just remember that whatever computer you install this on, it can only be used for that one computer. It's somehow tied to the motherboard, the details of which can be found online. But for the low price (about 30 for me), this is a minor issue, especially if you're installing this on a newer computer. Win7 will only be supported until January 14, 2020 anyway, as of this writing.

  • Most critical review

    Installation was marginal, at best.

When I installed it, there were not enough drivers included to operate even the most basic functions of my computer. I couldn't even manage to go online with an ethernet connection to my router to download drivers for various devices on my computer. I may have done something wrong when I installed it, but since the installation was "automatic", I don't know what I could have done differently. I've done full installs of operating systems before, specifically Windows 7, but I didn't have problems before. Could be something missing in my computer. A mystery to me! I'll try it again and hope for better results.

  • Delivered quick

Quick shipping and good service. Product pretty much as described with cd and unused key. Although, i had to call the Microsoft activation line when i chose to verify the key later online during install process. Would recommend, very easy process

  • Best Windows OS ever!!

It installed smooth as silk. Installed Windows 7 without entering the Product Key during setup. Ran Windows Update and updated old/missing drivers from the Dell product page. Only then did I enter the Product Key to activate the install. No issues what-so-ever. Sure a darn site better than Windows 10 that came pre-installed on the refurbished laptop I'd bought.

  • Windows 7: A rock Solid and Stable OS

Windows is 7 probably the best version of Windows ever offered. These OEM copies here a Ebay may require a phone call to Microsoft to achieve activation, But, (IMO) it's well worth the extra step. M$ is trying to force it out of the market altogether, in an effort to gain more control over, and information harvesting from, users machines. While the latest generations of hardware won't allow its use, and official support has ended, older machines definitely will. Assuming your board supports at least 8 GB of RAM, the 64 bit Pro version is the way to go. Most, (but not all), aftermarket software publishers still support this edition. If you are a gamer however, you interests would likely be better served with the later Windows 10. Windows 11 however, is still (IMHO) very much a work in progress, and requires the very latest hardware for installation

  • Perfect to reinstall Windows 7 on an older laptop

I have an older Toshiba laptop that I had upgraded to Windows 10, but it was too weak to handle it. I tried software that turned it into a Chromebook, which worked fine, but didn't have features that I needed. Got this Windows 7 Pro for a great price, it installed exactly like it was supposed to and activated without a hitch. The old laptop is back to chugging along like I need it to.

  • It's legit!

Purchased this expecting the worst, but it installed perfectly and I was able to authorize it over the telephone. Contrary to what others have said, you don't have to have a smartphone to authorize; you can use a regular phone. It'll just make the process of authorizing a little cumbersome, because you'll have to listen to a robot voice telling you to input a bunch of numbers. As Windows 7 64 itself, I'd heard so many nightmarish stories about missing drivers and incompatibility but so far, I've had no issues with software and drivers. My printer is up and running and my graphics card is up to date. My system is also running blazingly fast now, because it can now use over 4GB. (It could only use up to 3.25 of the RAM I had installed.)

  • 32 Bit Windows 7 is a rare bird and a winner for DOS programs

This version of Windows 7 is the last Microsoft 32 bit operating system and therefore the last chance that many users of legacy DOS programs will have to keep their software running. DOS BOX will work on 64 bit operating systems but it does not do well with programs like Foxpro. Windows software is permanently tied to the computer's motherboard so it can only be installed on one computer. You may replace a dead hard drive if you made a recovery disk but if your mother board dies, so does your Windows software. This disk allows you to format a new computer and hard drive with a 32 bit Windows 7 operating system. I have my disk safely stored away for just such an emergency. It is inexpensive insurance for my business Foxpro custom software. Microsoft support for Windows 7 32 bit officially ends in 2020. But if Windows XP is an example the operating system should work fine for another 2 to 5 years and will receive occasional Microsoft updates.
