Heavy duty easy to use
This firewood splitter is really heavy duty and works great. It makes splitting wood fast and easy. What used to take me 30 minutes to do I can do in 5 minutes, and is a lot safer for your fingers. Kindling splitter
This is the best ever. I have a hydraulic wood splitter for firewood, but had always used a camp hatchet or axe for kindling, generally not with great success. I just hated making kindling and often resorted to finding small sticks to use instead. I burn wood in our farm shop daily during the cooler/cold months, so use a fair amount of the stuff to get fire started. This thing makes it easy!!! Just take a piece of split wood and you can make four to six smaller pieces out of that one stick of wood. Really easy, safe and issue free. Works equally as well on green or dry wood. I usually use dry wood from the wood pile to make kindling and it is harder to split, but not with this little gem. Does the job QUICKLY
I'm a senior NH lady who runs my wood stove all season and this tool is THE BEST! I can "crack" enough kindling in 15 minutes to fill my needs for three days and I'm not a big muscle-bound person. I use a small 3-lb sledge and don't have to use a lot of force. The unit is small and light enough to pick up and turn over if a piece of wood gets stuck and needs to be pounded off from the bottom (this doesn't happen often). Piece of advice -- it works (for me, anyway) for the cracker to be up on a small stump. I have it pegged down using two heavy headless nails, so I can lift it off to store or turn it over, but the nails stop it from jumping around as I "crack". Works like a charm! The Easiest Way to Split Logs or Make Kindling!
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my husband, who is very hard to impress. He loves it! He used to hold the log while swinging an ax to split the wood. (Very dangerous!) Now he can place the log in the splitter, and use a mallet to hit the log. It splits easily! Much safer way to make kindling or split logs. Great product safe use
We bought this to teach our son to split kindling and find ourselves using it just as much! It is safer and quicker than splitting kindling by hand - its great for wood even when its still wet. Works but needs well seasoned wood
The product works well as long as you have well seasoned wood. The product could be improved by making the top opening larger as many pieces are too big and it would help to lengthen the area below the splitting wedge as some pieces jam. Making the top ring 2 inches wider and adding two inches BELOW the wedge would provide a lot more clearance for the wood to pass through. You will also need a 4 pound steel mallet or hand sledge to generate sufficient force. If it seems hard, your wood is still too green.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Well build, sturdy design, should last for years
The Kindling Cracker works as advertised and should give you years of service. It's sturdy, and stable. I figured I'd have to mount it somewhere to keep it from falling over, but it works well just as it is. I used a 4lb dead blow hammer and turned 6 pieces of firewood into a large bundle of kindling in a pretty short amount of time.
