Unfinished But Shows Potential
Opinions on Assetto Corsa for the PS4 are mixed. Some praise the realistic driving experience and others point out the sparsity of the package and the many minior glitches and oddities. For me, this is an unfinished product. We have to remember that although AC is new to console, it has been available on PC since December 2014, so at two years into its life, this game should be fully polished in all the essentials, but it is not. There are too many issues to list here, so let me highlight just one by way of example of what detracts from will, I hope, one day be a superb simulation. In most games, including driving games, winning something is an objective which is a vital integral part of the experience. Winning is what drives players to keep playing, be it achieving a target, wining a trophy, slaying a monster, and so on. In AC, you win a race, and - nothing. The race stops dead, with no information whatever about your time, or the times of your rivals, no banner announcing your win, no excited voices from your pit crew. You think, 'Well, what's the point?' And I thiink that is where developers Kunos Simulazioni show the limits of their focus. They wanted to make a great racing simulation. In that respect they have largely succeeded. However, they seem to have poured all their energies into that one aspect and everything else which goes to make a complete package has been given far less attention. The game lacks the depth and detail which would lift it into the premier league. As it stands it is not good value for money. However, I won't recommend that you don't buy it, for if Kunos Simulazioni don't get the revenue they need from console sales they will never be able to finish the game. Look upon your purchase price as an investment in the project, and hope and trust that there will be plenty of fixes and upgrades to look forward to. Above all, remember that this is not primarily a game, it is first and foremost a racing simulation. Keep that in mind and you will love it.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
