Quietly and subtly unnerving.
This is a forgotten gem by the BBC from 1978/79 showing an alternative Britain - where Germany and the Nazis had won WW2. What's really riveting about this is the late, great Kenneth More's performance as the writer of a soap opera where the Allies were winning the war of 1939-1945. All appears normal as we would be today - but there are hidden powers and controls on everyday life. There is no mention of the Holocaust and, as in real life Russia post 1945 - dissidents who oppose the state controls are 'taken care of ' . The BBC exists but hidden 'controllers' decide what we can see and say. A must watch - as the message that writer Philip Mackie conveys is of subtle control by the state. Well worth buying -even if you only watch it once. Also a well chosen cast. A fitting tribute also to a 1950/early 60's solid British Film star, Kenneth More ( 1914 - 1982 ) - RIP.
