It Actually Works!!
We were sceptical, but went ahead and bought this dehumidifier. Our upstairs especially feels close and stuffy, and one bedroom feels damp. So, we put it upstairs in the hallway. It does put out warmish air, and we felt it was making it feel even closer upstairs. After reading the instructions about five times, we decided we would keep the machine and set it up downstairs. Voila! It is dehumidifying the whole house. The upstairs numbers are coming down into a comfortable range, and the heat is far less noticeable with the machine downstairs. It is actually clearing up the whole house. We have to empty the water about once a day at this point, but hopefully this will lessen. And yes, we keep it running the whole time. Energy efficient and very effective.
This dehumidifier isn't quiet but it is just a background noise. It doesn't use much energy and hasn't really affected our energy bills. We've used it to dry smaller washing items instead of using the dryer (not great for jeans & king size bedding) and also to get rid of condensation. The water then goes in the water butt. Very portable with good features
I have found the Meaco Dehumidifier to be quiet in operation, efficient and light enough to be moved around from room to room using the carrying handle. It is a nice touch having a digital display of the humidity as you can tell at a glance how well the machine is operating. Very good dehumidifier for three-bedroomed house
This dehumidifier was bought to reduce condensation and stop mould growth in my elderly parents-in-law's warm, cosy but over-insulated house. It was very simple to set to the required Relative Humidity, and then left to get on with the job. It has been running continuously for a couple of weeks now and seems effective, with my father-in-law emptying it every day when it gets full and automatically switches off. The LCD display tells you the current RH level so you can see the dehumidifier's effectiveness as this figure drops. My father-in-law was worried about the cost of it continuously running, but I explained that it's one of the most efficient dehumidifiers on the market, using 165 Watts, which on his contract costs about 60 pence a day to run. Once the RH has stabilised the dehumidifier should switch off and on to maintain the level, so should become cheaper to run. I like the optional HEPA filter to reduce the spread of mould spores and generally make the air cleaner, as I don't want my elderly relatives to catch a cough or chest infection. Being made of white and green curvy plastic, this dehumidifier doesn't exactly blend into the background of the domestic environment, but it sits in the hallway at the bottom of the stairs and doesn't stand out too much, and the rounded corners means less chance of somebody bruising themselves if they accidentally walk into it. The fan is not too loud and while it could be quieter for a domestic setting, it's certainly no noisier than other models. There are similar specified dehumidifiers on the market that are a bit cheaper, but this is made by a specialist British firm that have won awards for their products and who can be easily contacted for advice and potential repairs or spare parts, which gives confidence for long-term ownership. Overall I'm very pleased with this purchase and think it's exactly the right dehumidifier for my parents-in-law's house. Great for smaller areas
It is a bit noisy, but does what it says on the tin. However, we have both the 12l and 20l versions of this dehumidifier. We picked up a used 12l very cheaply so definitely a good buy, but if buying new and you can accept the slightly larger size and extra cost, I think the 20l is worth it for the amount of water it extracts compared to the smaller version. Powerful for such a compact unit.
I read many articles and reviews on how to tackle condensation in the home, most noticeable on cold mornings where I was having to mop up pools of water from window sills and wipe windows to clear. In the process I learnt that I could employ a self help regime to minimise the problem, such as ventilating while cooking, keeping bathroom doors shut when having shower etc. My house has no ventilation having double glazed sealed windows with no vents, so on cold mornings the problem was terrible. The Meaco kept appearing in trusted reviews for its effectiveness, both in terms of cost to run and water vapour extraction rate. I have to say, after using for just a few weeks it is an incredible piece of kit. The amount of 'invisible' water it takes from the air is nothing short of astonishing. It's a great feeling when I empty the collection tank every 3 or 4 days and see the water I'd normally be mopping up with wet towels around my window sills. Another fantastic benefit is the inclusion of a proper HEPA filter which is easy to fit and cleans the air while it dehumidifies. The condensation problem due to the high 'rh' relative humidity, as I've now learned (which was 75-80 in my home) has now been brought under control with a drop to 50rh. I still get a very tiny amount of condensation on my windows on freezing mornings, but can live with that as to eradicate that I'd have to set the machine to 30-40rh which will make the air very dry and then you start to notice it when you breathe. Of note, the machine is not silent, but it's not loud by any means and tends to blend into the back ground once you're used to it. Placed strategically in your home you will barely notice it. Design wise, it's a beauty. Function wise it couldn't be simpler, although I do find that setting the 'child lock' via the two button method is fiddly and sometimes takes a few goes to register before the 'LC' on the display appears. Overall I highly recommend the Meaco 20L Low Energy Dehumidifier. It's doing exactly what I need it to do.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

best dehumidier on the market definitely double filter option not available elsewhere
probably one of the best things I have bought and definitely the best dehumidifier (shame it came via amazon so could have got cheaper if I trusted them). Quiet Compact seems to use the same electric as the others yet filters the air too. That will make it last longer than the similar priced morris with the dodgy guarantee or the vonhaus they did replace so I now have 2. The filter should help it last as I have 2 cats and severe psoriasis hence morris didn't want to know when it broke.
