  • An affordable replacement for the original. Requires some tweaking.

It will not take a normal 2.0 signal from let's say, a headphone jack or and MP3 player and output anything to the subwoofer. It will only output to the satellites if you do that. To get any bass you will have to have sub outputs on your receiver/PC (2/4/5/7.1). Since I am using this with my PC, I had to set up a crossover frequency in my drivers so they would output the lower spectrum on the separate channel (Center/Sub/Orange). If I was only using my Z5500, this would not be a problem. But I often use a splitter cable from my headphone amp which allowed me to have my headphones and Z5500 use the same output. The main volume and bass controls are separate. You can turn the main volume all the way down while the subwoofer will remain at the same level. This may be a pro or con to you. Personally I don't mind. Might produce an absolutely deafening (possibly dangerous) buzz when connecting the green output cable if the unit is connected even with the volume turned all the way down. I recommend you plug in all your 3.5mm connectors before connecting the D-Sub?? to the subwoofer. Anyway, it has some quirks. This is a much more economic solution than buying an original control pod. It will work, but maybe not as you expect it to.

  • Basic functionality only

If you have the Logitech z-5500 speaker system and the system quits working you are pretty much out of luck. For one thing there is likely something else wrong in the speakers amplifier itself, causing the real issue. With that said.. This handy little gadget does what it says. It will allow you to bypass the control pod, and send a signal directly to the amplifier module itself. Thats it. The controls are cheap, a super pain to find a home for, and this is a long way from what the Z-5500 was. That should be obvious by looking at this thing. I really cant fault it, as it does exactly what it says. But its sure no replacement to the pod thats for sure. No effects, digital processing or anything else, and I find myself really missing that. It will give you basic functionality to a otherwise dead speaker system. Its easy to hook up. It was packed well and it works. I'm sure for most people thats fine. Sound quality is not as good as it was.
