Same old story.......?
There's always something lost when an excellent classic of a book is made into a film. This is just such an occasion. After the horrendous Stewart Granger version in the late 1950's I expected much better. Alas, cockney actors, albeit well known failed miserably in delivering the "feel" of a story set in 1758 Dorsetshire. This is definitely made for the kids of 21st century television and sadly once again an interpretation that does not live up to the masterly writing of J Meade Falkner. A very good remake of J.Meade Faulkener's story, Set around Fleet (just west of Weymouth), Moonfleet Manor still exists & is a brilliant & original setting. The old church is worth a visit too (on the same road that terminates at the Manor), interesting the town featured in the second half of the tale is actually Kirby Lonsdale in Lancashire (on the side of the River Lune), excellent transformation & great place for 'location hunters' to explore.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
