ReviewsEmpire - A tense, slickly executed thriller, which sent a relatively unknown Austrian bodybuilder screaming into the world's spotlight., Time Out - More than enough violence to make it a profoundly moral film; and Arnold's a whizz., Film4 - The original and best film from the franchise -- iconic, heady, dark and exciting.
Additional InformationJames Cameron's THE TERMINATOR is one of the tightest, tensest sci-fi films ever made and a landmark in the genre. In the year 2029, battles rage between the superintelligent machines that rule the world and the last vestiges of humanity. In late-20th-century Los Angeles, Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) suddenly finds herself stalked by an unstoppable killing machine--a Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) sent from the future to kill her and her unconceived son, John Connor, the future leader of the human resistance. Sarah can rely only on Reese (Michael Biehn), a soldier sent from the future to protect her from the seemingly indestructible Terminator and save humanity. This low-budget masterpiece was the breakthrough film for director Cameron, who weds special effects, thrills, and understated romance to create one of the finest action films of the 1980s, which spawned many imitations but few equals. Science fiction author Harlan Ellison sued over the film's similarities to his own works, especially the OUTER LIMITS episode "Demon with a Glass Hand," and won acknowledgement in the film's credits. Schwarzenegger will forever be known as the relentless Terminator, a heartless killing machine who returns (in a kinder, gentler form) in 1991's TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY.

The first Terminator played to Blue Ray

The film as you may well be aware was the first, and of course the effects don,t quite meet the standards of today. But that aside what a great story and allowed the opening for more to follow. I,m always interested to know what they used to copy from to Blue Ray, as really there should be no reason for average picture quality with visible noise in darker scenes, as when you see new film releases this would not be acceptable to the home market today. After all older films were shot on 35mm so the quality should be perfect but alas not on a lot of older releases taken from DVD to Blue Ray. In the past a DVD release was taken from video not the master so poor , this DVD is not perfect, but it's ok, but let's hope that the people working on these re-formatting to higher quality understand a lot these days are viewed in a home cinema , meaning not just a large TV sitting in the corner but in my case a 15 foot screen and I,m not th exception anymore, get passed the technical issues sit back and see where the terminator started and enjoy.
