Arguably, automatic advance is the most genuinely useful feature built in to modern timing lights and both winners of this award feature it. Accusparks' P8000 is the better value of the two, but we do like the solid feel and stunningly bright output of Sealeys' TL85 ".

  • Most critical review

    Not convinced of accuracy

I bought this as I needed a visual indication of what degree After TDI I needed. I needed 6' ATDI. I failed in 6 & set about the procedure. At 6 the car ran really rough. I had to rotate my dizzy to around 12-15' before the car ran anything like smooth. Everything else has been set up correctly so I have to wonder about the accuracy.

  • P8000 Accuspark

Used on my chevy 350 small block engine So easy to use. Set dial to 34 degrees pointed at damper revved engine up to get total advance moved dizzy round till the zero degree lined up with zero on marker job done. Checked it with my old strobe the old fashion way revved it up till my 34° mark on pulley appeared on marker. Spot on. Replacing my old one which has knackered cables Robust and brighter strobe Very impressed for the price for the weekend mechanic

  • I race a F2 heritage stock which has a Ford sidevalve engine(100E) and this light which isn`t hard to operate made timing so much easlier

  • A good quality timing light

This timing light is well constructed and works fine my only criticism is the advance dial better to set it to zero and use it as a normal light as the dial is way off

  • Timing

Easy to use with decent light, had to buy to find angle to programme ignition timing, fairly accurate and maybe a degree out using the timing advance wheel on the back but sufficient for what I needed

As advertised. The light is bright enough even when used with over head lighting. Triggering has been reliable and consistent on the two vehicles that I have used it on; one contact breaker, and one electronic system. The advance control is useful, especially when there is a single TDC mark. All good so far.

  • Ignition timing explained

Prior to ECU,s and management systems In current use today Ignition timing was set manually. One simply lined up timing marks At which point the contact breakers would open to initiate spark requored. Often a strobe light setting was quoted. For greater accuracy. If the light fluctuated then timing scatter Was revealed. A potential problem. Once corrected Performance was restored. Often performance was not always Correct at specified setting. Trial and error being used. A bit 'hit or miss'. Not any more. The timing gun on test has a spart advance System. Once connected its aimed at crankshaft pulley and timing read. By rotating spark advance knob we can turn till timing is now reading TDC. A glance at meter will show in my case 7° So now we have a means of setting At say 6 °, 5°,4°, and so forth. Advantage being that any setting can be restored using this gun ONCE INITIAL SETTING HAS BEEN RECORDED. The gun itself is sensibly packed And is easy to replace in box. Its sturdy, and is supplied with Decent instructions. A trigger activates strobe which prolongs Its life. Its bright and relevant marks easily Seen. Rotating spark advance control retards setting to tdc. All in order then. Its keenly priced. Ideal for vintage motorist. One benefit for modern cars is that if if does Not flash then ignition failure ie faulty Plug lead can be determined without removal Of lead from plug. Reccommended

  • Does what you expect

Cheap, easy to use, built-in advance dial setting very useful. Does exactly what you want it to. Great tool for older classic cars when tuning.

  • MGB timing

I've not used a dial back ignition timer before, but this was simple and no messing around. Checked the idle timing with the dial at zero then turned this to 32 degrees (the generally recommended setting for an mgb), revevved up to 4000 rpm and adjusted the distributor to get the marks lined up with TDC. Couldn't be easier thanks to this product. It seems well made and should last. Certainly good value compared to most of the well known brands.
