    OK for Sky+ users

This box is very good but please be aware that if you are not converting from Sky plus to FreeSat you may need more equipment. The box has two aerial feeds to two separate tuners. If you have an older Sky aerial with a single feed, a signal splitter will not work. You will need a conversion kit (type not known but Google it) or an updated aerial; otherwise you will not be able to record two channels or change channels whilst recording and you may not even get an HD picture. If one tuner is OK for you then fine.

    Upgrade ruins usability

YouView have 'updated' their application. The new software lacks key PVR functionality that was present and worked well before the update. The new software is visibly slower to respond than before the update. The programme guide for instance takes over a second to fill its text. This, coupled with the inability to hide unwanted channels, makes it irritating to use. Navigation through saved programs is also painfully slow, confusing and illogical. Before the update, these functions were present and almost immediate. The update cannot be undone. The new update also stamps BT Tv or TalkTalk Branding onto the application for users who get their internet connection from these companies but are NOT BT Tv or TalkTalk TV subscribers, together with an advertisement that cannot be stopped. It also has a BT Player application on the start page which cannot be used. This is annoying for customers who bought their boxes from retail outlets, on the basis of advertising videos, the handbook content or trying it in the store. It is akin to buying a Dyson hoover only to discover when you get it home, it has Mr Sucky branding, fills your home with dust, does not suck and uses dust bags. This is surely illegal and will be reported to the Trading Standards Institute. BT Complaints are no help, YouView appear to be swamped by user complaints and the only solution to the branding problem is to change your service provider to a non YouView partner and wait for an update.

  • Well designed item which is easy to use and setup.

Great device easy to set up and use. I don't subscribe to any BT services but it does me just fine, I logged into Netflix, u tube, BBC ITV without any problems. Recording is simple and the device fits in with the other items in the room. I only have one issue which I'll have to read up on and that's setting up parental guidance, on first sight it if you set this up it seems to work as a blanket setting basically requiring a code to view any recorded content. So it's a problem when my little one wants to watch snuffles and his snuffly truffle snuff snuffs and it says 'give me the code' You can't give him the code because Max axe Max is on there. As I say though it may require a little more reading on my behalf to assign user accounts.

  • easy-peasy

Simple to set-up and operate. Virtually idiot proof. Good quality picture in SD. Great quality picture in HD. The integral HDD is large enough for all program and movie hoarders. Note:- It is not possible to download to external devices. I've never used the USB facility on this or other Humax Sat Recorder, so no comment. The white finish goes well with our black TV and accessories, so the colour is OK.

  • Outstanding bit of kit.

If anyone's ever used a Sky box this will seem just as intuitive. It's by far the best of the Freeview PVRs out there, and a doddle to setup and operate. Having the on demand apps built in for the main terrestrial channels is good enough but Netflix and NowTV are the real icing on the cake (be aware that NowTV is for the Movies section only, it doesn't do the Entertainment pack where Sky 1 etc, are which is a shame) Picture quality is superb and I think some of the channels actually look better in SD than they did on Sky. The planner is really cool as you can go back up to 7 days to 'record' shows you've missed. The play, pause, fwd, rwd is very smooth too. Sound is also very good. I use the optical output to an AV amp, and it's great to get Dolby Digital on the HD channels that the box can receive. Overall, this is literally like a Sky box just with less channels (and cost!) and in some areas of operation it's actually better. Well recommended.

  • Good box!

Good box. With this one you need ethernet connection to set it up or you're getting nowhere. It has all the main catchups iplayer, itv Player, All 4, 5. It also has Netflix and Now TV which is ideal. It doesn't have Disney+ or Amazon Prime which would make it perfect. I beleive if you're with BT there is a way of getting Amazin Prime. Humax make great, usable equipment. I like it!

  • Great features, easy to use.

Great box, very easy to set-up for Freeview, and for on-demand services. No built-in wifi, but this is easily solved with a couple of powerline adapters. Superb value for money!

  • Quick, very good quality and value, strange clicking sound.

Pros. I recommend this product because it is very good quality and value, it is much quicker than my old one. Cons. It makes a strange loud clicking sound before the normal Netflix sound !

  • Great little box

Lots of features in a small box. Much faster in response to DTR T1010 and with external power supply should be more reliable. Far far better than Freeview boxes.

  • A good buy ( I hope)

This all works very well. You need an Internet connection and eternet connectionto set it up.(no wifi) Once set up it will be perfectly satisfactory as a normal hard disc recorder without an Internet connection However internet gives you access to iplayer; itv player and other apps. I use a wifi/ethereto adaptor very successfully Human is a good quality brand I think
