Bit too big for my Garden!

I wanted something sturdy to rotovate the soil in my garden. This is certainly sturdy but it's probably a bit too big for my size of garden. It is pretty heavy and not easy for me to manipulate around the veggie plots I need it for, but it's done the job and it's fine. It arrived on a pallet and was housed inside a solid metal edged framework, so getting it unpacked was a bit of a challenge to start with! The instructions for putting it together could have been better, but I managed it and got it started up first time. It does cut out quite often which is annoying, but I suspect it's because my garden is on a slope. It does have strong pulling power and it digs to a good depth for what we need. Reverse gear is a good feature as you can back up and take another run at a particular challenging bit! Overall, pleased with product.

  • Most critical review

Worst piece of kit I ever bough I have by this to turn an orchard around but can't do half meter before it's switch it self off.

Seller goog but product it's rubbish I would like to get my money back first worth £100 have used numerous tillers/rotavators before this is by far the worst one, don't have words to describe...Warning... warning don't by this product.... switzer tiller 6.5hp 196cc complete waste of money...

  • Bought for allotment work.

Great item, well constructed although instructions didn't cover all bolt placements. Being an engineer it didn't take long to sort this out though. The tiller started on first pull and copes well with the heavy soil on the allotment. You do have to turn unused earth with a spade, but the tiller will easily do the rest of the work breaking down the soil. It has plenty of power to pull through heavy soil. So far I have been impressed with this machine, well worth the price paid.

  • labour saving

Arrived within timescale and well packed. Has a metal frame surrounding machine. The assembly instructions are basic and some aspects of the process are missing from the instructions. Suspect that the type of people who will order this machine will have sufficient practical experience to be able to work it out, just like I did Make sure engine oil is added before starting, mine did have some oil in but topped it up. Machine started first time and runs well Easy to operate and turns the soil well.....saved me loads of effort and time to complete the first part of my veg area

  • Easy to use, powerful and reliable.

This product is great as far as I am concerned. For the price, we have an easy pull start engine that is more than powerful enough. For ground that is old grassland, don't expect to get a beautiful one pass tilth. Patience is the trick and several passes will break the ground down to its lowest setting, dropping the depth control each pass. The machine is not too noisy and is capable of breaking up the toughest of ground, given a fair chance. I broke in about 1/3rd of an acre after a roundup spray to kill all the weeds to make an allotment area. The controls are really simple with a throttle and then a hand lever for either forward or reverse. Starting the motor is also very easy with a start virtually first time each time. The operation of the machine is not effortless and requires a degree of manipulation to keep it on track, especially when breaking in the first pass. As you get deeper, the machine tends to find its own path and all you have to do is push down the handlebars to keep it in the ground. Setting the handlebars at the correct height is vital and may need to be adjusted with each subsequent depth change. This will prove to be a lot easier on your own back in the end. Assembly took a little bit of working out but if you are willing to sit and use the instructions and a few ring spanners, it will come together relatively quickly. The deflector box on the rear of the machine is not the thickest and it does not take long for a few dents to appear due to the unearthing of stones by the rotors. For the money, it constituted good value to me and will be used every year and has already been loaned out several times to friends with no issues whatsoever. Just remember to check the tightness of bolts periodically and also tighten the drive belt after the first hour of work from the adjuster on the cable as the multi-vee belt does tend to bed in.

  • easy to use 6.5hp cultivator

Arrived in a steel angle iron safety cage in a box!! good start i thought!. instructions were easy to understand and i had it together in 15 minutes, in fact it took longer to extract it from its cage than to assemble it. On the down side i would have expected it to have come with oil for the engine and shaft drive included in the price. engine is mono 30 lawnmower grade but the drive shaft oil is harder to get as there are many types. However when all was filled and petrol added it started on the second pull and i used it to turn over a good sized old flower bed. It was effortless to use and very low geared so will not drag you down the garden. the reverse handle is a bit crude but works perfectly. Its well worth the money.

  • Good heavy duty rotavator

This item was originally listed as being able to rotavate previously uncultivated ground but it doesn't. However, having previously spoken to two local tool hire companies, they informed that even the big boys in cultivators don't either, it only works if they come with a plough attachment! The Switzer is however a robust and powerful bit of kit and if you have prepared the ground beforehand by removing or killing the grass it does a great job. It would be handy if they supplied other attachments like a scarifying bar with tines that would takeout grass and roots? It would also be handy if the throttle was controlled from the main handle rather than the front of the engine! All in all, a good heavy duty, well built machine, easy to start and control and it rips the ground apart when grass has been removed.

  • Good value for money

I am curently rotovating a piece of groung that has not been dug for five years and is full of twich grass and brambles. I have given it five passes now and I am six inches deep . This ground is notoriously difficult to dig because it becomes like concrete after a few years of neglect. It has mulched all the grass and weeds and with a few more passes it will be down to twelve inches. It is far eisier than digging and the machine is taking this hard ground in its stride.I am very satisfied with my purchase.

  • Extra value for money

Yes recommend this product, excellent value for money, get for any size allotment or large garden easy to used. Only down side which isn't a major issue is you have to remove the pons from wheels to get free wheel mode. Once you done that a couple of times soon get hang of it.
