The book is very worth while. The DVD is not very good, nor instructional. The filming is old, with only a narrator. The colors are extremely faded. It does show the mountains in the time and condition that Edgar Payne painted. But that's probably the only thing worth while about the DVD. The book, however, holds a tremendous amount of information, and following the principles in the book on composition will improve a person's painting or photography.
Recently became interested in early California art and learned of Edgar Payne. For a novice, I have to say this book is above my comprehension, but I find it interesting, and I hope it will enhance my knowledge of outdoor painting.
