About this product

Product Information

A film based on a true story, this is the story of a man who was exiled as a thief from his village but later returns for revenge. He plans to buy the entire district up as part of a water reservoir project but an old woman and her stepson stand in his way. Revenge, murder, desperation and love all intertwine in this moving account. This was Richard Burton's first screen role, having been a stage actor prior to his stint in the Royal Air Force as a navigator during WWII.

  • A film to remember

The condition of the DVD, considering it is a very old film (1949), is exceptional. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the movie. Richard Burton's debut and Edith Evens' wonderful performance is one film to savour. I'm very lucky have this example of British film history

  • Best Forgotten!

Old as the hills and a very poor quality b & w print. Probably of interest to Richard Burton or Edith Evans completists but this is a ridiculous caricature of rural life in 19th century Wales.
