Ford Madox Ford's Edwardian love story PARADE'S END is lavishly adapted for the screen by acclaimed playwright and screenwriter Sir Tom Stoppard. Benedict Cumberbatch (WAR HORSE) and Rebecca Hall (THE AWAKENING) lead the star-studded cast as English aristocrats Christopher and Sylvia Tietjens. As the decadence of the Edwardian era makes way for the destruction of the First World War, the Tietjens' marriage grows ever more unstable. Christopher is determined to stay loyal to his wife despite her numerous infidelities, but finds his resolve tested when he meets courageous young suffragette Valentine Wannop (Adelaide Clemens). This absorbing love triangle plays out across the events of the tumultuous period, from the stiff-upper-lip of high society London to the harrowing battlefields of France.

    Dramatisation of a five book series.

    A costume drama with some first world war action and a very subdued love story. Cumberbatch is as good in this as he has been in any of his other roles. The story explores the changes in society and how they effect a man raised as landed gentry and his determination to continue living up to the moral standards of his generation.

    A Classic Classic

    Madame Bovary caused huge controversy when it was first published although it is hardly shocking by modern standards. This is the third adaptation of the book I have seen and it is fairly close to the novel, slightly shabby in places and full of the force of middle class morality The BBC have a good reputation for bringing historical works to life and this one won't disappoint.
