It works and does no damage
As a back up to normal proofing I re-apply this immediately before using walking boots in damp conditions. It dries quickly, it does not stain and it repels water. Just one application has also proved effective on an umbrella and a sun parasol. Not cheapest product out there but this one actually works. It contains some sort of solvent so recommend using in a ventilated area.

Repels water well after application.
Needs to be reapplied regularly to work. Quite expensive when you use a lot. I would use this on normal shoes to protect them, but not really for walking boots in my opinion.
