  • Good headphones but be patient!

Very lightweight and comfortable. Took about 30 hours use to lose a bright edge to the sound which verged into brashness at high volume. They are still quite 'brightly lit' but excellent clarity, detail and the dynamics can be explosively fast. Bass is deep and taut, but a bit lightweight. Soundstaging is quite wide and well focused. Overall very enjoyable but the tonality is tilted away from the bass and toward the treble. A little EQ can sort these issues if necessary. Maybe some extra usage will also help to balance the sound; I've only had them a couple of weeks. For reference, other headphones I use and enjoy are Beyerdynamic T90, Philips Fidelio X2HR, PSB M4U, Stax SR3, B&O H6.

  • Amazing product. Be sure of the purpose and the right driver equipment

This is a pro item. However, my first reaction was to return the item in two days after connecting it to my laptop and listening to youtube videos. This sounded poorer from my Sennheiser 380pro except for some additional clarity. Once I used a better quality mp3, and increased the volume, its quality started showing up. What did I expect, having bought a pro headphone and driving with just a laptop, that too with a youtube video! Wake up.. it needs a headphone hifi amplifier or a good driver. And then its all clear how my Sennheiser 380pro makes it all muddy compared to the Shure srh1840! Amazingly clear separation of every detail, good bass, smooth mids and crystal clear highs without being harsh!

  • Quality product from Shure

Cannot fault the Shure SRH 1840 headphones, the sound quality is excellent. They do need a good headphone amplifier, mine are used with a Naim Headline and Naim Hicap power supply. This is not a cheap combination but the results in terms of sound quality are top notch. Some may question if this combination is value for money. But I am more than happy with this set up. I can see and hear why What Hi Fi gave these headphones 5 star review.

  • Comfortable-Lightweight- expensive.....

Comfort 8/9 out of 10 Build quality 10 out of 10 Weight 10 out of 10 Sound quality is good though i expected more.... For a lot less money the Phillips Fidelio is more comfortable and sound quality is almost as good as the more expensive Shure.... The big issue with the Phillips fidelio is weight... the Shure is far lighter and can therefore be worn for longer.... But its early days as the Shure needs more playing time to fully bring out their potential..... The Grado 80 is possibly as good sound wise as the Shure.... Build quality wise the Shure is outstanding.....no complaints there....

  • Shure srh1840,sennheiser hd650 replacement??

I brought these as a replacement for sennheiser hd650s which after 15 years finally died..I’d heard good things about the shure’s, so when I saw them at a reduced price I went for them, using my iMac with output set to 88.2hz and feeding a teac ud 501 dac and ha 501 headphone amp my jaw dropped.. these tell you exactly what’s on your music files( all recorded at 44.1hz wav)my listening session became very long!!you can’t go wrong with these head phones, if you liked the hd650s, then these will just blow you away,(on some songs the hairs on the back of your neck stand up)with improvements in all areas, just need half decent gear to get the best out of them..I 100% recommend these👍👍
