Clear sounding headphone, comfortable, excellent understated design that focuses on actual build quality
great all around headphone, but I switch back to my Focal One S when I am listening to hip hop or other music that's heavily synthesized. Like others have said, it's bass performance is "lacking", and you cannot correct it with equalizer either, crank up low frequency will end up with distortion at even low amount of boost. Other down side I saw from other reviewer is it's weight. I wear a XL or XXL helmet, so I am used to carrying weight with my neck. so if you have a fat head line me, you will be fine with it's weight. aside from listed "problems" above, I will probably end up using this set about 80% of the time when I am working by my computer, it's absolutely wonderful when listening to classical or jazz with it. This headphone shows much more detail in every music it plays, with no "round offs" or boost of any kind, just reproducing what was going on the other side of the mic. I use a FIIO E18 amplifier along with this headphone, so you experience may vary if you are not driving it with an external amp.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Bought for our acoustic society board man...kept it for myself... ordering another
This model was recommended by a friend who works on the sound crew at another acoustic society. We needed to do something about the sound mix at our venue. Our board man is located in the back corner where acoustics are horrible. His mixes were terrible as attested by recording the board one night. I bought the Shure SRH840 and tried them out at home. Oh my.... what great sound! The CDs I played sounded like I was right there among the instruments and singers. The isolation was great, keeping outside sounds to a minimum. I had our board man use them last week and found the mix to be much better. It really pointed up how bad things were back there in the corner. Nevertheless, I decided to keep this set for myself and watch for another set on eBay for the sound guys at our acoustic society. They can borrow mine in the meantime. I expected to find them uncomfortable after awhile, but after spending an afternoon on the computer with them on I had pretty much forgot about the headphones but thoroughly enjoyed the music. Shure srh840
Bought the shure srh840 and the srh940 just to try them out and if worthy then add them to my collection. I figured I'd only keep one and sell the other but I decided to keep both I do enjoy the 940 more because of better detail retrieval and treble extension, but the 840 is no slouch, they are both very neutral the 840 having a bit of a bass boost but this is only due to the ear pads if you put the velour pads from the 940 onto the 840 it loses some bass and sound very similar to the 940 but still not as detailed or extended. I would highly recommend either pair, they both have tight clean bass, very nuetral, and excellent imaging and soundstage the 940 does a little bit better in the imaging and soundstage department as well.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
