About this product

Product Information

The Sony MDR-7506 headphones are professional-class listening devices exclusively designed for sound monitoring in professional and home studios, radio, film, and news production. This is due to their quality sound output with minimal distortion. With these Sony headphones, you will enjoy crystal-clear treble notes, present mid notes, and an extended low-end bass. This clarity allows for accurate monitoring of audio in a recording booth. These closed-back MDR-7506 Sony accessories are ideal for professionals doing voice-overs. If you prefer listening to songs at home without external noise interference, they also deliver excellent sound quality for home use. The headband on these Sony headphones is generously padded for a comfy fit. The cushioning around your ears creates a tight seal. They fully encircle your external ears without any added pressure. Airflow through the smooth padding keeps you comfortable and allows the ear covers to stay in place over the tops of your ears. The seal also keeps the sounds in so others around you will not notice what you are listening to. The closed-ear design features a rugged look with convenient folding construction for easy carrying and minimal external sound interference. By blocking out external sounds, this accessory allows you to focus on the instruments and singing. These dynamic Sony headphones use a neodymium magnet type in the driver. The neodymium magnet allows you to hear every note without any feedback or audible humming. This allows you to detect any flaws in a song while monitoring and working in the production studio. They utilize 40mm driver units with gold connectors for clear, crisp, and high-definition sound reproduction. The 40mm drivers deliver great power-handling at 1,000 mW per side. The headphones have a wide frequency response at 10 Hz to 20 kHz with a sensitivity of 106 dB/W/m. This allows you to listen to live, soft vocal whispers as easily as a throbbing bass mix. The set also works well for direct use with electronic instruments. They connect with electronic keyboards, electric guitars, and synthesizers for composing and testing out melodies while in a production or pro audio setting. These headphones can be connected to a variety of different devices. You can use them while playing video games and get a total surround-sound experience. They will also connect with your pre-amp, amplifiers, subwoofer, and receiver so that you can fine-tune and edit music. You can also use the Sony MDR-7506s with your desktop or laptop computer while mixing and producing your own songs. The 9.8-foot cord features oxygen-free copper construction, culminating in a 3.5mm jack for versatile connectivity. A stereo unimatch plug makes it easy to connect this MDR7506 pair to your recording equipment. The stereo plug fits 0.25- and 0.125-inch applications. An OFC cord ensures that the MDR 7506 maintains a solid connection with every output device. The Sony MDR-7506 offers rotating ear cups for compact storage. These comfortable Sony listening accessories weigh just 8.1 ounces. Versatile and well designed, the MDR-7506s will allow you to hear music the way it was meant to be heard.

    Sony MDR-7506

Not for listening to music, but for accurately monitoring recordings. The frequency response is as flat as possible, ensuring you are hearing what you recorded with no added low end. However, I still listen to music with them and they suit the purpose perfectly. Overall a solid, classic design. Does exactly what it claims. The only flaw is one that can be avoided - don't rip them off your head and clap the cans together or the foam from the earpieces will wear out and become disconnected from the glue holding them to the cans, and you'll have to reglue them after trying to precisely fit it back. Just be responsible and they will take care of you for many years. I swear by them to the point that I've bought them 3 times, and keep the boxes in my mic cabinet.

  • Most critical review

Sound great, not so original parts

These sound amazing, and work really well! Used them for a few years so far, until our audio partners bought their own from the states and I found out that mine are not quite original. The problems? 1: Left and right are inverted 2. The cable is a bit too tough. The original ones have a really lighter cable. Otherwise, they sound great and I use them in studio. Can't tell the difference between these and the original

  • Industry Standard Monitors for a Reason

Incredibly comfortable, been able to wear these for hours at a time. Don't expect incredible music quality from these, they are definitely intended for monitoring. Highs, mids, and lows are all balanced in order to give you a good perspective on your audio quality. If you are intending to purchase these for just listening to music, don't expect an incredible low end or bassy response. For listening to podcasts or something that doesn't rely on a strong low end, these are great. With how relatively easy these are to power as well (63 ohms), I've been able to plug them into my phone and listen to podcasts or audio books while cooking, especially with how long the cord is! Would definitely recommend if you're needing to fulfill a particular niche. If you're looking for a pair of headphones for just listening to music, I'd probably pass on these. If you do a mix of audio/video production AND also want to listen to some music, would definitely recommend these. For the price, can't beat their performance.

  • Low cost pro phones

Lives up to my expectations. Good bass. A bit glossy at the top end, compared to European phones, but not brassy. The feed wire on L.S. is loose and exposes 3mm copper at the back panel. I am worried about this and will have to check the warranty. The main wire is pro quality however. A 16 yr old listened to his rap music and proclaimed DRe's better, but we were unable to make a direct comparison. For my purposes (acoustic, classical, jazz, electronic-techno) these are ery good all around phones.

  • Comfortable, even sound stage, and great price!

For the price, these headphones can't be beat. I was able to snag them for about the same price as they are selling used - except mine were completely new! Build quality is typical Sony - so built like a tank (in my experience). I love the design, especially the retro Sony Professional logo on the side - keep in mind these came out in the 90's. The headphones have a nice even sound profile, perfect for listening or audio editing. They sound great no matter what amp, I tried them on everything from an iPod Classic to a dedicated desktop amp. I swapped out the ear pads that I found sealed a little better than the stock ones - but everyone's ears are different, and the stock ones work great already. There's a nice amount of bass, and it doesn't drown out everything else. I would recommend using this in a semi - quiet space, as they do let some background noise through - but most of it can be drowned out if you turn up the volume. I have little to no fatigue wearing them, they're over ear so I didn't get any ear pain like I do with on-ear headphones or earbuds. I could barely notice they were there after a while, which is a good sign with any headphone. Overall, I would highly recommend. At this price point, nothing that I've tried really competes - especially for audio work / mixing. Thanks for another great product, Sony!

  • My God. These are crisp!

First the sound quality is amazing. I hear sounds, panning and instruments I never heard before. The condition was MINT. Perfect length cord. It was very long perfect for my playing situation. These are more comfortable than the audio technica M50 X Bluetooth. I would pay triple for these headphones. They’re that good!

  • Very pleased with this purchase

This is a very good set of headphones. The sound quality is excellent, the sensitivity level is high, and they are a comfortable fit compared to commonly available low-end headphones. While I'm not a musicphile, I suspect they are excellent in that area as well.

  • Industry Standard, BUT...

For their size, they are not too heavy but certainly not lightweights either. They do fit comfortably and seal well against exterior noise, so they are great for serious listening. I actually use a different headset that is lighter and allows me to hear when my wife speaks to me for most listening to videos, TV, etc. Also, these have excellent lower bass response; sometimes too good. On digital recordings of lower quality like YouTube, I can actually hear the extremely low thump of the digital clock which is very annoying. I added an equalizer program to my PC to correct for bass-heavy tracks where the bass became so prominent as to overpower the music and that helped a lot. These headphones are also fairly sensitive, so if you plan to power more than one from the same source you will need to use the same model to prevent differences in volume. The good news is because they require less power they allow the sound source (i.e. sound card in a PC) to run quieter, meaning less noise and distortion for higher quality. Best use: Studio or serious listening to high quality audio sources. I hear things I don't hear with lesser headphones like fingers on frets, breathing and the little nuances that add much to the experience. Since these are the same headphones used in most studios since the early '90s, what you hear is exactly what the artists heard when making the recording. It doesn't get any better than that.

  • Best Headphones Ever.

As a former On-Air DJ/Radio Announcer, I had the opportunity to use and try out several headphones, but wasn't able to find anything better then the Sony MDR-7506. I bought my very first pair in 1997 for $125 and used it for 18 years (even after I got out of the DJ/Radio Industry) with no issues. Still same great sound. I was forced to buy another pair (found on ebay brand new for $80) after I lost my original ones moving. While there are other certain brands that cost upwards of $199 or $249 that you can purchase today, it would be interesting to see if they would still be in use and working 15-20 years from now. Bottom line is that DJ's know sound and a good pair of headphones. For the last 20 years you could go into almost every Major Radio Station or Recording Studio and find someone using the Sony MDR-7506, and the fact that it's still being used today in most Major Radio Station's and Recording Studios speaks for itself.

  • Just not up to the quality standards I expected from Sony.

Sound quality was not as good as I expected. Just not sharp sounding. No Sound adjustment possible. Build is somewhat flimsy feeling. Large ear cup is good. Like the long cord length.
