This is a 'quirky' but entertaining book
This beguiling story is full of laughter and a range of characters that will make you really want to read on - my kind of book. The writing style is from a translation but that adds to the enjoyment; no frills. I went on to read 'The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden' by the same author. Again thoroughly recommend this title too.

Very apt.
A ridiculous farce about friendship and growing old on your own terms. It was laugh out loud in some bits. I liked the historical events that were included in the narrative. I admired the main character’s determination not to allow his mature age to hold him back but I didn’t like his lack of loyalty. He did exactly what he wanted to do regardless of the consequences. The story jumps back and forward in time and this can be a bit confusing. I’m not intending to read the sequel.

This is a classic and not to be missed. Set off on a mad journey with the most unlikely characters in this hilarious tale that almost defies description. Be prepared for laugh out loud moments as the hundred year old man leads you on a global jaunt.

Humourous and enjoyable
The book is interesting, over a hundred years someone's life can be an adventure and this was. I pictured a laid back man where things just happened to him. It was humourous and very enjoyable.
