Jamo D165 - True bargain high quality classics.
Built around the mid to late 90's these latter versions of the Jamo Power series were sold in your local Tandy store, but have since long gone out of business. They were marketed at the teenage and young adult market for people who wanted some serious DJ style power in their home or bedroom.
The overall sound is quite surprising, should you pick up a pair that haven't been abused or damaged, like my particular pair. They have an impressive low end, with plenty of bass without the need for a sub, and an equally impressive smooth sounding top end. Using a p.a. style mixer with the e.q. settings on 12 o'clock, they do give rather too much midrange, but you can sort that out my reducing it. Just make sure you play them at moderate volumes as should you blow of destroy any of the cones, they are becoming increasingly difficult to find replacement parts for, like most vintage gear nowadays. Treat things with due care and respect and they can last for decades!
