The original QUAD ESL 57 treble panel
My goal was to source an undamaged (unarced), unopened (factory dustcover sealed), factory nylon coated center panel for my Quad ESL 57s. The mission was almost impossible as these are almost unable to find at online listings, these are mostly from speakers those are trashed or stopped working. The panel: However, it is very old, I belive the mylar used for the diaphragm doesn't sag and the quality of sound doesn't deteriorate as it's believed by many. Some rebuilding experts also say that the material Quad chose for coating the diaphragm is not only for making the manufacturing process simplier and cost-saving. It is rather for some beneficial qualities that the coating and the material have when used together for static charge holding in this process. Go for these if you are looking for an 'original' replace, test it, and if it sings; keep it!
