It will never be the same as playing through a wall of sound, feeling the subsonic waves shake your jeans as you rock out to a few thousand people in the audience...but it'll fill your bedroom or small studio with all you need. I would recommend paring with an EQ and compressor of your favorite type, it still needs that last bit to send it over the edge into Punchland. Quality control?
Recently purchased amp. I think it's a good practice/ small venue amp. May need to use a mic on it if in loud environment. Quality control may lack. First time I'd ever had to open up a new amp because it wasnt working. No sound. Speaker was never plugged in on circuit board I seriously doubt in handling it unplugged. This amp delivers HUGE, soulful and sophisticated tone in a small package - it's the IDEAL learning/practice/recording/small gig bass amp. It's not the slightest bit boomy or boxy - unlike the Fender Rumble series, for an obvious example and contrast. It definitely sounds like a grown-up Ampeg - not a weak approximation of one - and that's a proud and storied tradition to uphold. If you're interested, do NOT buy the 8" version of this series - yes, it's a little cheaper, but a tiny speaker can NEVER move enough air to not sound like a tiny speaker - that's just physics. I use mine with a Squire short-scale Jaguar bass with D'Addario light half-round strings, and I swear I get tones completely indistinguishable from those we've all heard on multi-million selling hits all of our lives.
