Unputdownable sheer enjoyment by a modern day Shakespear, George Martin is the true magician here.
A true page turner spread so far over seven books, separately these will cost in the region of £70 so this nicely presented boxed set with a nice map of the seven kingdoms is an unmissable bargain. I’ve read the whole seven books in ebook format some years ago but this time I’m enjoying the actual paper book experience. From the start of this saga your are introduced artfully to all the great and not so great characters heroes are made and die along with Kings and Maesters the story is a web of deceit and treachery battling with devotion and love which has many twists and surprises. Heavyweight reading but sticky
Bought for girlfriend who says that it can be heavy going. The story line refers off to appendices that gives info of different 'Family Houses'. This causes a lot of page flipping which can be interruptive to the flow of the story. However, she appears to be traversing the first book with tenacity - which is a good indicator of it's 'stickyness' :-) She's obviously developing a position on the different characters which is indicative of a good writing style. Not sure how this compares with the Film Series of the same name as neither of us have watched any of them. However she is obviously becoming iimmersed in the characterisations and plots which can only mean the first book is good. The new Lord of the Rings
My generation grew up with Hobbit and eagerly learned complex timelines and Elvish language. George R R Martin, for me is the new Tolkien and has created dynasties, fiendishly intertwined personalities and gripping drama. There also be dragons. This box set was bought as a gift for my nephew. He and his girlfriend are big fans of Game of Thrones. I tried to read the books in the past, but it wasn't to my taste. I found the story line ridiculous. I don't mind fiction or fantasy, but, for me, it has to be believable. Great series
As an avid game of thrones fan, naturally I felt like getting the ASOIAF books for cheap. Postage was quick and the item arrived in immaculate condition, with a free poster map of Westeros and a part of Essos. The box that contains the book set has kinda teared slightly on the edges however. The box has been made to be maybe a bit too tight so take care when taking out books and putting them back in. Overall excellent service from The Works. Would recommend the box set especially at this price! Currently on book 2 and I thought A Game of Thrones was a compelling read, so the actual content is fantastic as well.
