3 months and all is well
I bought one of these a few months back and found it easy to set up. The picture quality is good and it has enough features to keep me happy without being too complicated. With regards to the on/off button, on my set you have to press it really hard to get it to come on, which has been mentioned in previous reviews, but my sister has just bought the same model and her on/off button is fine. Let down by short mains cable
I've deliberately removed 2 stars from this product because it is fitted with a hard-wired mains cable which is barely ONE metre long! Consequently, unless you want to place it in on the floor, near to your mains sockets, you cannot use this on top of a Hi-Fi stand or other piece of furniture! The other star has been deducted because the mains lead is NOT DETACHABLE, meaning that you cannot pass the cable through the back of a conventional piece of furniture, which has a slot or small round hole cut out for cables to be routed behind the unit. LG are basically cutting corners to save a few pence on the finished product. How much would an additional metre of 2 core cable cost to a huge manufacturer like LG? Probably less than 2p. Note also that there is NO OPTICAL AUDIO OUTPUT and only one HDMI socket. Apart from the cons, the product is useful being a multi-region player and the upscaling provided means that original DVD's made in the 80's/90's and 2000's can be viewed with much better definition on today's large screen monitors. Good value for the price paid - but LG should review their policy on the uselessly short power cable!Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Many features at a good price

Needed a cheap DVD player to connect to my LG LF652V Smart TV. Plugged it in to HDMI1(ARC) and it worked flawlessly. Picture and sound seemed good to me on a quick test. I've read other reviews that said the sound from the DP542H is pretty darn good but I haven't used it much yet to truly comment. Bonus discovery I wasn't expecting, the DVD remote worked straight away with my LG TV, providing basic on/off, vol/channel up/down functionality. For normal watching freeview TV and DVDs I could technical just use the one DVD remote, but in reality I still need the TV remote to access Settings and Smart functionality like Auto-Tuning, Software Updates, TV guide, MIracast, Youtube & other apps, etc. I rate this 4-stars. For the price it's definitely 5-stars but I try not to exaggerate ratings. I'm sure there are much better (more expensive) DVD players out there, but also, only time will tell how long it'll last. Also, I believe this model is Region locked. There is a procedure/hack to unlock the region but I haven't tried yet.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
