Barbie Riding Club CD-ROM begins as you learn to take care of and ride your four horses (a gray, white, paint, and palomino) and continues as you investigate the legend of a family who lived in Secret Valley long ago while clues located throughout the valley lead you to a special wild horse. Start in the stable where you pick, name, groom, tack and feed your horse using a simple point-and-click with the mouse. Barbie helps explain what's to be done and how to do it, along with a bottom-screen toolbar that explains functions such as using the pager to set up races with Christie and Theresa. The stable also gives you access to the bulletin board posting clues about the mystery horse. You can also start earning a Barbie Riding Club certificate by acquiring photos of various items scattered throughout the Secret Valley. Use your camera option to capture photos for the certificates and snapshots of your horse and Barbie to store in the Riding Club Handbook. In addition to the pictures, the book also saves any certificates you earn, race ribbons, special awards, and contains personality information about the horses in the stable. Choose keyboard or mouse control for your horse's speed, jumping, and direction. While riding, you share Barbie's first-person perspective as the actual rider. When stopped, you can guide Barbie within individual screens in the environment. Explore the trails on horseback, gain awards by searching out key objects hidden in the valley, and uncover the truth behind the Secret Valley legends. A virtual pet option lets you feed, groom, and admire a miniature horse on the desktop without running the full game.
