Lytro Light Field Digital Camera - Graphite

About this product

Product Information

For the photography enthusiast, the most exciting thing is always the next step forward. Capture the images that make life exciting with the Lytro Light Field digital camera. The simple rectangular body of the camera hosts an array of lenses. At the end is a very special sensor that allows it to take amazing shots with entire light fields. Ordinary cameras capture single planes, which is why you can't change them much after you've taken them. However, with the Lytro, four-dimensional data captured by a single sensor allows users to view their work and change focus immediately. With this technology, you can keep on changing the focus at any time after the fact. The Lytro Light Field camera offers automatic or manual focus with the screen controls. It can take both video and picture. The incredible depth of field and lens control are unrivaled. The 1.52-inch display is backlit, and camera functions are controlled by the sensitive touchscreen. The 8X optical zoom lens makes capturing sunsets or sports photos simple, and the constant f/2 aperture offers flexibility when creating shots that are more artistic. The camera deals well with both low and bright lighting, so you can take it with you wherever you go.With two different modes for varying levels of control, Lytro is a winner. In the everyday mode, users can just point and shoot, and its fast shutter speed will produce amazing image quality. The touchscreen on the device allows you to refocus and zoom in on your scene easily, and creative mode allows more control and can take images in 3D. The imaging is so sharp it'll remind you of virtual reality. In both modes, you can get beautiful live pictures in record time. In addition, with 8 GB of storage, you won't run the risk of running out of space at a crucial moment. The camera comes with a free desktop application for Mac and Windows. You can download all your work using a micro-USB cable and edit it on your computer to your heart's content. All your gear will be at your fingertips with this user-friendly interface system, and your computer’s storage can supplement the Lytro's. Make slideshows from your work and view them in your home cinema. Create stunning videos. The best part is you won't lose anything when you download your images. The light-field engine data stays, so you can tweak the imaging and depth of field at a later date. You can share your vision with the world easily as well. The software allows export to email and social media at a pixel resolution of 1080 by 1080. Lytro’s tech is an interesting progression in digital cameras. You can catch 11 million light rays in your photos with this camera. Also, the process is lag-free, so you'll never miss that important moment again.

Great for learning LYTRO camera type.

Tthe Graphite is the first gen of the Lytro cameras. it's super easy to learn to use.. especially, if you download their manual. for these, you will need to get your own connection for your computer. * Of note * make absolutely sure that the connections are USB standard on one end and the Micro on the other. do NOT try to use the mini! it can screw up the plug.

A futurustic vintage but not more

The Lytro was a thing before some 15 years but now this camera is a vintage item. The light-filed photography is an interesting but quality of the chip (it's from mid-2000s) is very limiting today. I was able to made some average-looking pictures but that's all The camera requires specialist software - it is freely available but it run on Intel Macs and on some Windows computers (64bit only, W10 seems to be OK). There are only incomplete tools for use on Linux. Please note that one still need a powerful computer to be a aple to work with images in real time. As a toy, it's very nice. As a camera its not that much. Your contemporary phone will make much better pictures.

  • Way to much fun at this price point!!!

I had followed the "startup" of this camera. I collect all type of camera gear and kept my eye on this camera. I purchased this 1st gen when some of their higher end cameras were released. Price was great. The bad is the low resolution, the good, the software and the ability to adjust focus and exposure. It is a new process for taking photos and takes a little getting use to. If you find one in the 40-50$ range then grab it up and have some fun. When using the gen one camera in the software just "double click" somewhere on the photo to change the focal point.

  • Lytro-Light-Field-Camera-8GB-Graphite

The lytro light field camera is an easy to use point and shoot camera. The benefit is once the photo is taken you have options to change the depth of field. And make 3D pictures using the downloadable software. Also you can upload a link from the lytro web site of your photos to share on Facebook.

  • Fun little camera

The Lytro is fun! I admit the quality of printed photos is not up to par, but the ability to "refocus" on the screen brings a new dimension to photography. I am a serious amateur, and own several Nikon DSLRs, as well as lighting, backdrops, etc, and will continue to use all that for my serious photography, but the Lytro lets me experience a new technology. It does require using the Lytro Desktop software to import and export photos. I'm running a mid-range Windows 10 system, and have no problems. I was unable to load the iPad software (version conflict ??), but it has limited functionality and horrible reviews..No problem - I didn't know it existed when I bought the camera, so it isn't missed. The Lytro isn't for everyone, but for those interested in new technology, and those who like toys, I recommend it :)

  • Not ready for prime time...

This camera works differently than any other camera I have used. The concept is really good, but the execution needs some work. The Lytro Desktop software lets you manipulate your images to make them good, but unfortunately some of the most useful features of the software aren't supported by the images from this camera. Using a Lytro camera requires a shift in the way you take pictures. You can concentrate on the composition of the photo and then change the focus, depth of field, etc in the desktop software afterwards. Photos taken with this camera are made to be shared digitally rather than by printing them. When someone views your finished photo, they can interactively change the focus, zoom in and out, and the angle of view. This is really great if your photo contains multiple subjects at different distances, but of little use if you have a single subject in the photo. You can export the photo from the desktop software, but the 1080x1080 size makes prints grainy and unattractive. With all that being said, remember that this is a first generation camera. Lytro now makes a model called the Illum that builds on the good qualities of this camera and adds lots of new features that allow much more creativity after the photo is taken. Images from the Illum work with all the features of the desktop software. If you buy an Illum, remember that the purpose of this camera is to take photos, edit them in a creative application, and then share them digitally on a web site or other electronic means. If you want to take good pictures and print them, then this is not your best choice. The list price of the Illum is $1599, but used ones can be found in the $300 range. I think this is because people buy this camera expecting it to function like a traditional DSLR and decide afterwards that it's not for them.

  • Is it worth it?

Honestly, if it wasn't for my obsession with cameras, I would find this to be the most useless thing ever. While the technology is cool and may have some interesting uses in the right scenarios, it doesn't really make sense focusing the image in post. Definitely not a camera for the average person, but for a total optics and electronics nerd, this is pretty awesome.

  • Get started with light field technology

I wanted to experiment with light field cameras, an interesting technology. This is an inexpensive way to get into the game. While the software is no longer supported, it's very well done and readily available.
