    First time Kindle

By all the means, this is a great product. It's not a tablet, it's not a smartphone, it is a completely different things, its a Kindle. Been myself a person who travels a lot, and having plenty time to work and to little to enjoy, I found that I can select and read an entire book, learn about my hobbies and specialized reading interests, with out depending of having an electric outlet near. The Kindle allows me that, having a lot to read, as if I had a full pack of books on my backpack, all in one place, and with WiFi to access to the web when I need it, as if it was a tablet or smartphone. The Pros I have found using it: 1) Small, easy to carry 2) Good storage capacity, taking into account that we will carry text instead of heavy media files 3) Easy to use, more simple than a tablet, with touchscreen, and simplified characteristics 4) Good browser, something I didn't expected in a ebook reader, I used it to reserve hotels and to check-in a couple of flights 5) Great battery duration, I charged it almost 1 month ago, using not much wifi, but reading a lot, still has half charge. The Cons: 1) Small screen. The full potential of this eink technology will be when we can use it as a full newspaper reader, or web-based news reader, lets say, a A4 size would be the summum 2) Not full support of PDF. I read a lot of books in PDF, but the browser does not allows me to download this format. To read PDFs with images, the screen becomes a little tricky to handle, zooming and passing pages when not required. 3) Browser not fully developed, still as an experimental app. Note that as a ereader, having a browser is just a bonus point. 4) Being a Linux based software, Amazon arranged to lock all the potential of a (grey screen) tablet (I think its just me) 5) It could have simple apps (Checklists for example) Finalizing, in a time where everything has to be charged each several hours, I was expecting a ereader (almost a Casio calculator) but I received a tablet (it is), with a long lasting battery, I like to think that its a PDA with a battery duration of months. It makes one think if making things simpler, its better, we can loss some apps and have a great tool. Right now Im using it as a motorcycle shop manual to learn how to adjust the valves of my motorcycle (on a Zip bag obviously).

Does not connect to Kindle store

It will not connect to the Kindle store. Looking at the home screen all the icons appear correct but after reboot and switching Wi-Fi networks still does not work.

  • Love this Kindle version!

This is my second Kindle Touch, purchased for my husband because of how much I love mine! I'm sure there've been improvements with e-ink, but this little guy does great. It's responsive, the battery lasts several weeks, it holds hundreds of books...my only criticism of it was that the screen isn't lit. The Kindle lighted case was the best solution for me--compact, lights the screen effectively and doesn't require an outside power source. I don't even notice a difference with my Kindle battery life. Mine has the ads and AT&T 3G, which I've appreciated when I've been sitting on the beach. I was also able to use the web browser to read emails, but I've not tried that since having a smart phone. I actually LIKE seeing the ads. My recent purchase is wifi only without ads. This is great too. While I've only used the Read-to-Me feature a few times, I wanted my husband to have the same option. The reading voice uses some inflection and is easy to understand. I've not loaded and MP3s on mine, but I still like have that option. PROS: Comfortable size and weight Touch screen for page turning is simple Can do text to speech on any publication Choice of font size Able to load MP3's Can connect to car audio for reading or MP3 playback Long battery life-several weeks The Kindle brand lighted case works great CONS: No built-in back screen light Limited font choices No color options I highly recommend this older version Kindle, especially with a Kindle brand lighted case. I don't plan to upgrade until all the same features are offered again, at a reasonable price, with a backlight.

  • Easy to Use

I'm not tech savvy, but I bought this as an easy way for me to lug around a bunch of books without taking up a lot of room. This is sleek, lightweight, and easy to use. I went through the instruction manual that came in this device first and I was good to go. The instructions were easy to understand and since they are already downloaded onto this device, I can refer back to it whenever I need to and not worry about losing the instruction manual. The battery life is awesome. I've had this for a few weeks, read 7 books, and it still hasn't died! The screen is great for reading because it doesn't hurt my eyes like when I'm surfing on an iPad. It's very much like reading a book. The prices for Kindle books are great and affordable and their Kindle Unlimited subscription makes it way too easy for book-lovers like me to keep reading new books all the time. If you read two to three books a month, the Kindle Unlimited might be a great way to go. It pays for itself. I can't say enough about this device. It's easy to use, simple, sleek, lightweight, affordable, easy for my eyes, etc. The only thing is that I can't see the screen in the dark, which would be the same with a regular book. One could use a book light/lamp for that. It's easier on the eyes to use a light/lamp versus having a backlit screen I think.

  • with updated software works well

PDF and MOBI formats work great...converted epub or other to MOBI don't work well (like using Calibre to change format) Memory can be slow to load book menu (I have 200+ books)...but after I updated to latest software and the RESET to factory,it reset to factory UPDATED version with latest software and worked much better Battery life good Starter cord broke first day and left turn signal won't blink otherwise for a basic book reader it's great !

  • This model is the best Kindle there is

This model was my first Kindle, purchased almost 9 years ago. When one of the keys stopped working (after 6 years of intense use!) my husband bought me a newer model Kindle. I hated it! It did not seem as well built as my original model and was not as user friendly. And it was not working entirely properly. I sent it back and used my original kindle for the next 3 years, finding a way around the broken button (home button). Then my beloved Kindle finally gave up the ghost entirely. I went to Ebay and found one just like mine but in better condition. I could not be happier!!! Amazon really should bring back the original model...it is an oldie but goodie.

  • Couldn't be happier!

I love it! Easy to use and easy to see in the direct sunlight. Perfect for reading outside. I have two Kindles. One's a Kindle Fire, which is great for reading at night but terrible for outside. This one fits the bill perfectly!

  • Like it!

Works great. The condition of the Kindle was accurate. The device is easy to use. Battery lasts for days. The Kindle says right now the battery is low and I've still been able to read for hours before changing.
