First time Kindle
By all the means, this is a great product. It's not a tablet, it's not a smartphone, it is a completely different things, its a Kindle.
Been myself a person who travels a lot, and having plenty time to work and to little to enjoy, I found that I can select and read an entire book, learn about my hobbies and specialized reading interests, with out depending of having an electric outlet near. The Kindle allows me that, having a lot to read, as if I had a full pack of books on my backpack, all in one place, and with WiFi to access to the web when I need it, as if it was a tablet or smartphone.
The Pros I have found using it:
1) Small, easy to carry
2) Good storage capacity, taking into account that we will carry text instead of heavy media files
3) Easy to use, more simple than a tablet, with touchscreen, and simplified characteristics
4) Good browser, something I didn't expected in a ebook reader, I used it to reserve hotels and to check-in a couple of flights
5) Great battery duration, I charged it almost 1 month ago, using not much wifi, but reading a lot, still has half charge.
The Cons:
1) Small screen. The full potential of this eink technology will be when we can use it as a full newspaper reader, or web-based news reader, lets say, a A4 size would be the summum
2) Not full support of PDF. I read a lot of books in PDF, but the browser does not allows me to download this format. To read PDFs with images, the screen becomes a little tricky to handle, zooming and passing pages when not required.
3) Browser not fully developed, still as an experimental app. Note that as a ereader, having a browser is just a bonus point.
4) Being a Linux based software, Amazon arranged to lock all the potential of a (grey screen) tablet (I think its just me)
5) It could have simple apps (Checklists for example)
Finalizing, in a time where everything has to be charged each several hours, I was expecting a ereader (almost a Casio calculator) but I received a tablet (it is), with a long lasting battery, I like to think that its a PDA with a battery duration of months.
It makes one think if making things simpler, its better, we can loss some apps and have a great tool. Right now Im using it as a motorcycle shop manual to learn how to adjust the valves of my motorcycle (on a Zip bag obviously).
