Product Information
Brian Weatherson argues that it is not important for people to live up to their own principles. What matters, in both ethics and epistemology, is that they live up to the correct principles: they should do the right thing and they should believe rationally. This stance, that what matters are the correct principles and not one's own principles, has implications across ethics and epistemology. These are drawn out in Normative Externalism; this stance implies that thinking one was doing the right thing does not excuse immoral action, and it implies that rational people should stick to their beliefs in the face of widespread disagreement.Product Identifiers
