Easy change actuator curing a problem

Well I have certainly cured why for best part of 16 years since we moved into our house as brand new the domestic hot water was always extremely hot. I replaced the actuator and rewirwd into the junction box set the thermostat and away we went no problem. I left short pieces of the colour coded wires in the junction box so the actual swap was easy and quick to do. Later I looked inside the old actuator and found that one of the "plastic" spring anchor points had broken away from the body but there was no trace of the broken piece of "plastic". The new item is working perfectly and I have repaired the original with a "metal bolt" and that is now a "spare" . A very good price to pay for a complete valve and I will look on yout web site in future first.

    A bit of a nuisance

I bought one of these last October and this is its replacement. The old one went wrong only a month or so after installation but, because it was only an intermittent fault, I waited until the warm weather before replacing it. The motor action and spring return work well enough but the microswitch, which controls the pump and boiler, doesn't always turn off. A bit of a nuisance.

  • N.B : Not a plumber / electrician but fitted myself !

    N. B. : Both Valve & actuator had to be replaced as older type similar valve was faulty & leaking. Not too difficult to fit with basic plumbing and electrical skills and a vented heating system (header tank in loft). I waited until the system cooled down, and then turned off ALL POWER. Went into loft and ‘bunged’ header tank on both feed and expansion pipes. Closed isolator on one side of the heating pump and then ‘cracked’ one valve nut slightly open with a bucket underneath to catch any water (approx 1/3 gallon from upper pipework to header tank came out). Once water stopped dripping I undid second valve nut to completely remove old valve and replace with new (PTFE tape around old olives). I then reopened isolator to heating pump, Un-bunged’ F&E tank in loft and then waited for pipework to refill with new valve open. I wired in new actuator as per old one (ALL POWER STILL OFF) and then ‘clipped’ onto new valve . After checking everything and with no leaks, turned power back on, including boiler to check etc. - all good, no leaks and working fine. No air found in system, but have bled highest rads just in case now and again. Hope this helps, but have a plumber’s name handy, just in case !

  • I needed a replacement actuator same as the model advertised I fitted it and it worked so I'm pleased with this product .

The product worked . The actuator fitted the brass valve already on the pipework so I didn't have to replace the brass valve .I only have to do that if it's seized or leaking . The reason I had to replace the actuator or electronic head is the internal springs for closing the valve break away from the weak plastic anchor point within the valve and the valve dosent close off properly and keeps your boiler running so if the valve is connected to your central heating the rads be very hot all the time . Or if it's controlling the domestic it will be hot all the time . This particular model has this problem but keep the brass valve spindle freed up moving smoothly smoothly and it will work for a few years . All the different models and makes have their own faults . But this is are not made to last these days . Service guys and girls would be out of a job . Regards Reggie .

  • Smart look

Bought as a replacement for old programmer lp 522. The illuminated background is a nice design feature. We have not had any problems thus far operating hot water and central heating but it’s only been a couple of weeks. Easy to install. Smart in appearance but not smart device.

  • Heating System flow valve

Very quick to install as it clips on place of the old one, which had become intermittent. 5 wires to install, colour coded. just follow the one that was already installed. if new installation then let a professional install.

  • Very easy to replace and at a reasonable price

My pump was staying on regularly after all controls had switched-off, sometimes all night. I eventually narrowed it down to a micro switch sticking in the on position even though the valve had moved to off. I replace the actuator only and all has been fine since. Although the reputation of these Drayton actuators seems mixed in terms of quality/reliability, the ease of replacement still makes them an attractive proposition in my opinion. I purchased this one as it was a complete valve and actuator at a similar price to many actuators only. I have saved the valve just in case.

  • Good Replacement

Used as a direct replacement for a BG installed unit that was over 5yrs old installed in Central Heating circuit. Valve body was not working on BG unit which allowed H/W to pass through every time boiler fired up for H/W. Did the job!

  • Easy to fit.

Purchased to replace dead BGMVSP-2 valve. This sale included the whole assembly but I only needed the motorised body which was a perfect fit on the aforesaid valve. This saved draining down the system. The old valve was over 12yr old and the switch no longer worked. This deal was great value and worth buying the whole valve assembly rather than just the motor and switch part. The unit came with a generous amount of 5-core cable to complete the connections. Would I buy this again? Yes.
