R6350's hardware is OK, but Netgear's firmware is totally unacceptable.
This R6350 router is the first and last time I'll purchase a Netgear product. Decided to try something new and different since the trusty old router was falling too far behind for the times. It didn't take long to figure out that I really disliked this router due mainly to issues with the firmware Netgear runs on it. First and foremost is that after getting it set up and connected to the net, you can't log back into it to change admin settings without it redirecting to a page on Netgear's site that says you must create an account to continue changing your router's settings. Had I known that I would be forced into creating an account just to tweak settings would have never bought it in the first place. The only way I could find to get around this was to disconnect the WAN cable from the back of the router. The "Nighthawk" app for adjusting settings was tried and found to be of no help. Once into the web admin screen, most glaring was the lack of advanced settings for many of the functions. The old router is light years ahead in this regard, so guess I'm just asking too much from a supposedly modern router. At this point decided to give it one more chance by loading it with alternative firmware. The moment I clicked on the download link for the firmware a screen popped up stating "This site has been blocked by Netgear firewall". I could find no settings to adjust or turn off this so-called firewall, which amounts to Netgear exercizing censorship over what can be downloaded, so had to reconnect the old router just to download the files. The router is now much better, at least for now, the hardware itself seems to work fine, and performs as expected. It might be fine for some, but I would certainly never recommend it.
