Very good clear sound for a portable AM FM radio.

Very good sound and easy to use controls. Only takes one AAA battery and it lasts for a long time. One big drawback as I'm sure many have mentioned is that there is no way to lock the volume button and it can accidentally get very loud if the volume dial moves while in your pocket. That is a big design flaw.

Still looking for good portable radio

I wanted a portable radio to use while sitting in the stands during college football games. I was intrigued by the sport appearance of the Sony. Actual use is cumbersome and not intuitive. Station memory is difficult to set. Tuning is not precise, stations can be heard off channel and not clear on designated channel. Reception is directional by how the radio is placed or held. Tuning is one frequency step per button push or fast forward when button held with no auto stop on strong stations. Local distant button makes no difference. I will keep looking for a better radio.

  • Reception is so so. Very well designed, like a SONY.

I live about 35 miles from the DFW antenna farm. My old Memorex (pretty old, huh?) AM/FM/Cassette (what is a cassette?) portable would loose stereo lock from time to time. Same with this SONY. Except this unit is 1/3 the size, has digital tuning (not a 'dial') and fits on your arm. I like it and use it in the yard when I'm gardening (what's that?).

  • Great little radio.

Only problem is the location of the volume control. Every time I clip it to my belt, the volume gets very loud. I have to be very delicate when I do this. The ear buds are fantastic!! They cup right into my ears and don't fall out. Sound quality is good. The listing for this unit show a bundled arm band. The band was not shipped with the product and the supplier said he did not have one. That might have helped the volume control issue.

  • Sounds great, very easy to use

Pros: light weight, easy to use, sounds great Cons: Head phones are good, but sounds better with sport style earbuds

  • Sony SRF-M85W Walkman - works great; so far, it's all good

I just received this, so my comments are based on setting it up and checking it out. Everything about this unit is as advertised. Small, lightweight, uses just one AAA battery (rechargable or alkaline/lithium), gets really good reception, the headphones that come with it are Sony good (sounds like rich stereo to me). It curves so that whether using the armband or belt clip, it fits on you better. I bought this mainly to listen to radio while running outside. The armband seems to work great. However, because I'll have it on my arm and running, I won't be using the stopwatch feature (I have a watch for that), or looking at the display or changing stations much. I'll just set it, put it on my arm and go. If you're using the beltclip or holding the unit while working out, changing stations, using the stopwatch, etc will be easy to do. It is advertised as water resistant, so you don't want to dunk it in water, I'll see how it resists rain or heavy sweating. Another feature is a countdown timer that operates the radio for a time you set and then cuts it off like a sleep timer. It also has a pitch timer, which I won't be using. I had this feature on an old running watch and only used it once because I found it more annoying than useful. Setup and use is fairly easy and straight forward because the instructions are accurate and written in plain English. I don't know how long the battery will last with my usage, but I use rechargables, so I don't really care. There is a battery indicator that displays when the radio is on, but I don't know how accurate it is (because it's a Sony, I'll bet it actually works).

  • It gets the job done.

There's nothing great this dated Radio does, but I haven't found much that it doesn't do good at. Reception can be somewhat iffy on some "local" stations. Headphones are a bit dated in the sound quality department, but definitely do the job and stay on my head well. Fairly simple device that works like it should. I use rechargeable batteries in it so battery life is of no concern to me. Battery life has been great so far, btw. I really like the button lock that keeps you from accidentally pushing buttons while jogging. Does what I expected it to do.

  • Sony SRF-M85W Armband Radio - open box

All 3 radios are working fine, but I would have preferred to be able to purchase a closed box so I could be sure it was new, and also it would have come with the armband.

  • great little radio!~

Love this little radio! GREAT sound and reception...I as surprised at how great, to tell the truth. Very easy to set up and use. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a sport radio. I am a walker and this helps me to get motivated with upbeat music!

  • 90% Awesome. 10% Senseless

This is a great FM tuner but the one drawback is that the volume knob is super-sensitive AND put in a bad position so that you will often bump it and blast your ears out OR, turn it down. Bad design flaw by Sony engineers but an otherwise great product. You can put a little piece of tape on it to stop the inadvertent volume changes.
