Takes me back to Christmas 1945
On the far away Christmas of 1945 I lived in a cottage next to a remote farm in Yorkshire , it was snowy and just post war there was not much around in the way of food and presents though my mum did her best. Dad was not yet demobbed from the army. There was a knock on the door and two German POW stood there, they worked on the farm. Smiling timidly they handed over a bag bound with farm string. “Open it then said my mother” - I did so and there was a beautifully crafted ‘Monkey on a stick’ ..made with wood cut from surrounding trees, cardboard and a rubber band. It worked beautifully and was my favourite toy all of that Christmas. - v happy memories. This Acrobatic monkey is simply but beautifully made, was not expensive and delivered in time for Christmas. Highly reccomended indeed and God bless those two kind German POW who are probably now flying up in the sky along with Father Christmas and the Snowman.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
