Good for the price
Everything works well. Exception: after sustaining five notes, adding a sixth note sometimes changes the velocity or attack on that note and plays it very loudly. I read that this is pretty normal, but could be bad for a live performance. Still, very happy with it. Action is good. Parameter selection is simple. Drooling all over this thing
This was an answer to prayers. I absolutely love this keyboard. I was looking at some of the reviews and pondered on one of the comments of the responsiveness of the product. It is actually REALLY responsive. Funny thing is, it may depend on the program your using with the midi keyboard a well; it my not entirely be depended on this, but it does have some effect. The first program I used was Studio One, and each time I played, no settings changed on the keyboard or within the system, it had some effect of delay. That was a little frustrating, in all honesty but with knowing that there was a problem with the delay, there must be something to control it right? Eventually, it can be monitored and delt with in the system settings of program you are using to interact with the midi Keyboard. I recently changed to Ableton Live (A lot easier to understand) and was able to see exactly which effect were causing the delays. That may answer some of the worries a customer may have about the ratings of this product. Just what I needed
Pro's - It's a big, simple controller with higher functions optional and not in your way. Synth action feels good. Appreciate the MIDI DIN legacy connector, not too many MIDI controllers have that anymore. Well built & def. got my money's worth. Cons- No 9v adapter included, but they do include USB cable. Not a "CON" but this model has a power switch which threw me off, the other Alesis Q controllers don't have a dedicated power switch---short lived panic.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

For composing and songwriting, the combination of the included software (download links) and the better than expected feel of the controller keyboard is a winner from Alesis. It is important to note the Q-88 is a controller; you will need a computer, a USB port, and a decent sound card to hear anything. Set up is easy, the downloads were quick, but give your self some time to ease into the software. If you have worked with a DAW (digital audio workstation), you should have no trouble. The piano sounds in particular are very good. This purchase is to augment the current rig used for film scoring. Blended in fantastically with many more possibilities to explore. Not what I expected
I wanted to purchase a portable keyboard for my son to use and this looks like a really nice keyboard... but that's all it is. It can't be used free standing. Be ready to buy the power supply, midi board and amplifier so you can actually use it. If it had been explained in the ad I would have moved on.
