Upgunned initially with the 5.0cm KwK 38 L/42 (Ausf J) and later with the longer barrel 5.0cm KwK/39 L/60 gun (Ausf J/1) the Ausf J was effective against British Valentine and Grant tanks but still no match for the Russian KV-1 or T-34.
Very well detailed and easy to put together, from the short-gunned 50mm and slightly up-armoured J, to the more fully up-armoured and up gunned Pz IIIs with either the long 50mm gun or the short 75mm; and with the choice of putting on side shirts. A flame thrower version is also available. With two sets you can build all five versions available.
These models have well-defined details and are solid and robust, making them ideal for wargaming. I add half a dozen nails anchored in Blutak inside each hull so the models feel like real miniature metal monsters as they are manoeuvred around the battlefield. There’s a tremendous choice of variants, crew figures and even the “skirts” fitted latterly in the tank’s long career. Having all the road wheels moulded as one piece is another advantage over traditional plastic kits, both in assembly time and durability. Also, all those wheels line up every time!
