It works.
The ice compartment is attached to the lid but does not allow the liquid from the jug to enter; consequently unless filled with crushed ice or water tends to float the lid off the jug. The fruit compartment does the job and allows water to be infused, but you have to allow it to drain over the sink if you want to refill the jug.
