It is not a bad book, dry but that is Microsoft for you. When they mean fundamentals, they mean fundamentals. If you can pass the A+ you can just take this test and pass no problems. This is more of a refresher book for me. Also suggest taking several practice tests before paying the money for the cert. Only get the book to refresh your memory or if you have to have the cert for your place of work only.
This would have been decent information 12 years ago, although there are MUCH better books for administering 2008 R2.
