Based on the novel by Muriel Spark, THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE stars Maggie Smith in the title role. Smith won an Academy Award for her delicately textured portrayal of an eccentric teacher at an exclusive Scottish girl's school. Miss Jean exhorts her 'gels' to follow their hearts and never lose their youthful idealism. Unfortunately for her, she also stumps for her favourite political figures: Mussolini and Franco. In addition, she can't keep the innermost details of her private life a secret, and in fact boasts about her sex life to her students. Made in 1968. THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE earned an Academy Award for BEST ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLL for MAGGIE SMITH. Set in an Edinburgh girls school in 1932, it tells the tale of teacher Miss Jean Brodie's somewhat original approach to educating adolescent school girls in her classes at the Marcia Blaine School for Girls. Be prepared for endless confrontation between Miss Brodie and the Headmistress, who it seems is hellbent on dismissing her insubordinate teacher. Interwoven into this plot are the amorous adventures between pupils and staff with a serving of nudity and rejection. An excellent addition to any good DVD library and quite rare to find these days.
