Russia Rouble, 1913, 300th Anniversary - Romanov Dynasty

About this product

Product Information

This Russia ruble was minted in 1913 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty, the last imperial dynasty in Russia. This rare silver ruble coin was made during the reign of Emperor Nicholas II of Russia, who ruled from 1894 to 1917, until he was forced to abdicate when the Russian Empire dissolved to the Marxist Bolsheviks, paving the way for the Soviet Union. Nicholas II of the Romanov dynasty was the last tsar of Russia. While he ruled from the Romanov line, he is a descendant of the House of Holstein-Gottorp, a branch of the House of Oldenburg, which reigned in Denmark. While the coins celebrating the Romanov tercentenary were minted in 1913, little did Russia know that four years later a Romanov would not be on the throne. Russian coin designer Kerzin, M.A. designed this rare ruble coin during the Romanov dynasty. Created from silver, coins measure 34mm in diameter and feature conjoined heads facing right. On the obverse side of the coin, the heads are of the first Romanov tsar, Mikhail Fjodorovits, and the last emperor, Nicholas II. Mikhail Fjodorovits, often known as Michael I, is depicted in royal robes and a monomakh’s cap. Emperor Nicholas II is depicted in the military uniform of the life guards of the fourth infantry regiment of the Imperial family. Their portraits are made in a circular frame around a Greek ornament. The ruble coins represent the last Imperial dynasty in Russia under the Romanov dynasty, which reigned from 1613 to 1917. The reverse side of the coin features a crowned double headed royal eagle, a symbol of the Russian Empire that is also its lesser coat of arms. Above it is an inscription with the name ruble, and at the bottom is the date of the 300th anniversary of the Romanovs: 1613-1913. Each of the coins contains .579 troy ounces of silver. There are two different versions of this Romanov Dynasty anniversary coin; one version has a higher relief, and the other has a lower relief. The high relief variety is one of the most common coins of the Russian Empire. Fewer low relief style rubles were circulated due to its smaller mintage, with only 50,000 coins struck by the St. Petersburg mint by mintmaster Victor Smirnov. This silver Russian ruble was given to officials all over the Empire in 1913 to commemorate the Romanov tercentenary. Collectors can love to add this limited edition 1913 Russian ruble to their collection. It can be more than a commemorative piece of money; this coin can come with great historical value, and it can serve as a link to a Russia of the past that was ruled by tsars.
