  • Ricoh 500G a feature rich pocket size rangefinder camera

The good part first; It's a small lightweight 35mm camera that can be carried in a jacket pocket. There is an "A" mode selection where you set the shutter speed and the camera selects the aperture, you can also shift off the "A" mode and operate this little gem manually (both shutter speed and aperture). The built in light meter on my sample is accurate enough for negative films, I suspect my battery is failing. On the subject of battery the original battery used was a PX675 or PX625 these supersede to the new version by Zinc/Air # MRB625. This is a 1.35 volt and no adjustment or compensation is required for the light meter. The light meter is built into the lens so it reads the light through any filter placed in front of it no need to calculated filter factors. The ASA dial is also in the front of the lens and can be set from ASA 25 through ASA 800. I found ASA 200 colour film was to fast for a bright sunny day and wished I'd have loaded some Kodak Ektar 100, 200 speed film I'm sure would be great for dawn and dusk and maybe 400 and 800 for around a camp fire or street scenics at night. The camera has a self timer and tripod socket so you can actually set the timer and get into the picture yourself. Hey we were doing "selfies" long before the fancy phones came out LOL. Okay here is a great feature that not many if any of the modern cameras have, this camera will sync at 1/125 through 1/500, remember you still need to set the shutter speed. I'm sure there is a whole lot I've missed get one and try it, first ready the bad and ugly though. The bad part; the original light seals on these cameras are sure to be useless and require replacement. The ugly; the light seals are ignorant to replace, once done you will have a friend for life. A closing note; I purchased a hood and cap off e-Bay UK for I think $15.00 CDN the little rubber hood is perfect for reducing flair and the lens cap works two ways one to protect the lens and it shuts the light meter off saving the battery. I use a wrist strap but may look for a thin neck strap, which ever I can see this camera traveling with me as a walk around and casual camera. Get one have fun shoot film A great site if you like rangefinders is Matt's Classic Cameras I'm sure his site will turn up in a search.

  • Great little camera

Though I do believe this camera needs a new battery and the backing of foam needs to be replaced for light spills, this was in immaculate condition and everything is operating well. Very happy with this purchase. 10/10
