Revived my old gol waterproof
Bought this to extend the life of a waterproof short sleeve golf jacket. It has had quite a few soakings in the ten or so years that I've owned it so its waterproof properties were well in decline. I bought Nickwax after researching different products, it didn't let me down, just followed the washing instructions on the bottles and my jacket is as good as it's ever been. WASTE OF TIME TRYING TO WATERPROOF WITH NIKWAX BECAUSE IT DOES NOT WORK
NIKWaW TX DIRECT WASH IN WATERPROOFER. IT IS NOT SPIFFING. You use Nikwax Tech WASH First.Then Nikwax TX Direct to waterproof in a woolen wash 30 degrees use 2 full capfulls of Nikwax in wash as it says in the washing instructions. Finish TX DIRECT WASH leave to DRY .and it does not waterproof your £110.00 NoRTH FACE SHELL GORE TEX JACKET. It is as usefull as a Marks and Spencer Brown Paper Shopping Bag in the Rain. Best thing to do is dont buy a Gore Tex Jacket For £110.00. Save yourself some money buy a Portwest Sealtex Pvc S450 Jacket For £43.00 and you dont need to Waterproof the Jacket and it will last 10 YEARS so that is my of the day for you. It does the job and does what it says on the tin and definately breathes new life into waterproof clothing.
Apart from driving various types of large vehicles, including the obvious cars and vans, I also ride motorcycles. Being an avid motorcyclist who enjoys being out in all weathers on my bikes, I also do a fair amount of walking, usually with our German Shepherd dog. The terrain and weather often varies and not only covers the usual fields / parks, but woods, hills and beach. Out on the bikes, riding at whatever the limit maybe when it rains one tends to get the full force of mother nature, unlike folks tucked safely in their cars. Just as with any other waterproof clothing or those that are sold as water repellent, motorcycle clothing also needs cleaning and re-treating from time to time in order to maintain its efficiency in dealing with the weather. I can honestly recommend the dual pack of NIKWAX TECH WASH & TX DIRECT WASH 300ML TWIN PACK FOR WATER PROOF CLOTHING to do the job as advertised. Easy to use with clear precise instructions and more than enough to clean and treat three jackets, two pair of trousers and the inner's of all these clothes. I'm more than happy with the results and especially the effectiveness of how the product works.. especially after a 700 mile round trip on one of my motorcycles recently with the weather literally throwing everything it could at both man and machine. I was a great feeling and gave peace of mind, knowing I was not only dry inside the clothing, but the outer was only marginally damp. Something that didn't happen last time when I made a similar trip as I was soaked prior to reaching my destination. Wash without destroying Water proofing
Bought this as a good quality Ski coat had been spoiled by grease off of a chair lift. I didn't want to spoil the waterproofing on it as regular detergent has done to other coats in the past. Followed instructions and applied some neat to affected areas and then washed as directed. It did a good job but not perfect in getting the grease out. This was a very challenging stain for any detergent at low temperature and I feel it performed very well with out damaging the waterproof/breath-ability of the coat. Easy to Use; Does the Job!
I have used Nikwax tech wash and TX. Direct to launder and re-proof several of my outdoor jackets and hiking trousers. The product is easy to use - just follow the instructions as directed and use it in your washing machine. Follow the main wash with TX Direct to re-proof the garments. Once this cycle is through, you can see the water droplets running off the garments. I let mine dry naturally and they're ready to wear again. Good Value double Pack but how effective?
With the Tech Wash I spread some on marked areas of my jacket before putting in the washing machine for a full wash with correct measure of Tech Wash but in general it did not do a very good job of removing the stains or generally soiled areas around cuffs. It may be better for mud stained clothing but mine was just general 'use' marks. As for the TX-Direct waterproofer - I used this in the washing machine too as directed and was not impressed as the machine ended up with a coating on the drum and I had to run a 90 degree cycle afterwards to remove it. Also when testing the jacket afterwards it showed that the DWR coating was not evenly applied with some areas beading and other areas the water soaked in. I therefore did a hand treatment with the TX-Direct which fully coated the jacket. It is therefore far better to use the waterproofer by using a hand treatment rather than a machine to ensure all areas get treated - it also has the benefit of using a lot less of the TX-Direct so you get more treatments out of one bottle! So, in summary, Not a particularly effective wash treatment (possibly would be better with hand was as can focus on dirty areas) but DWR treatment appears very effective if treated by hand rather than machine. Overall I would not recommend using a machine at all and doing it all by hand and perhaps just spin (and possibly rinse) using a machine. As to how long the DWR treatment will last I have not tested.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Does what it says on the packet !!!
I had thought about using nikwax before but never got round to it. My pale colour bike gear was pretty grotty after wearing it through the winter months . The first pack got the garments absolutely spotless . The second pack has re-waterproofed it fantastically. There is at least 2 more uses left in both packs. Out door clothing washing and protector
I used this product on my salopettes first to wash them as instructed on there washing label at a delicate low temperature then once i had done this i rewashed them in the protector/ waterproofer.
