Lovely radio, beautiful sound.
I was a bit concerned initially that this 10 year old unit wouldn't work with modern mp3 streaming, but it works beautifully. The cab is great and the sound is rich and deep. Email reciva and they'll put you on the beta firmware, allowing you to add custom streams - urls that aren't in their online database. The reciva website looks like web 1.0 but it functions beautifully and I hope they never change it. The radio database itself is extensive and very well curated. I've found many gems. It can also stream podcasts, provided they're not https (http is fine), but as many are these days that list is getting smaller. The dnla streaming works ok, best if you have prebuilt playlists on your pc that you can then select on the unit - the interface is limited and building playlists on it is a bit clunky. In all honesty, the unit works best as a stand-alone internet radio rather than as a sonos type device - for me, I like not having to use my smartphone. If you are really desperate, there are apps that allow dnla streaming, but it's easier and simpler just to use the audio jack.
I personally hate the social negotiation that revolves around selecting music in party situations - more often than not, competing wannabe djs impatiently skip each other's picks in their desire for social approval, and those with the loudest voices and fragile egos end up imposing their tastes on the rest of the group. I'd rather stick it on FIP, or 6 music, or byteFM, or one of the many thousands of stations, and just enjoy what's coming through the air waves and get on with the party.
