    Not so easy!

Claims to be "easy setup". Its easy to plug in, but then it needs you to register and it needs a credit card number before it will even let you use the box, then most of the main channels (all 4, itv hub, uktv play) all need you to register before you can watch anything... Far from easy to use, I'm computer literate and it took me over 2 hours to get it all set up and register with all the channels. The hardware is pretty good, but has one glaring issue, It only supports 2.4 gig WiFi, there is no 5g support. These were apparently first produced in 2016, which is the excuse for them not having 5g wifi. The hardware could of been easily modified/improved at factory level to include 5g, so I don't know why Roku failed to do it... Its a glaring oversite! There are thousands of channels you can add, though many of them are junk and just dont work properly, but if you rifle through the trash there are some good channels to be found. In conclusion: If they added 5g wifi and removed the need to input a credit card while registering the box it would get a higher rating. The fact there is so many non working trash channels also reduces the rating. But, overall a very nice responsive box, which gives good picture and sound quality. The remote control works a heck of s lot better than the older Roku boxes

  • Most critical review

Useless product for using the BBC iPlayer.

This model (3900X) is not compatible with BBC iPlayer and the BBC will not run on it. As that's the main thing I bought it, it's almost useless to me. The only mention of this is on the iPlayer app, where it lists all the Roku models that the iPlayer app supports and it's not easy to find which model you're buying on eBay. Annoying and frustrating as there seems no logical reason for the differences.

  • Good value for money

Great piece of kit. Good value for money. Very easy to set up. I didn’t need to read the instructions ! I bought it to use netflix on my TV. The remote is a nice size and the button layout works well. The streaming unit is quite small and discrete and wires long enough to reach the usb and HDMi slots on the TV.

  • Good Basic Product that does work!

The Roku Express HD Streaming Media Player is indeed a good product. I was easy to set up and use, and it does work well in accessing all the differrent streaming products - albeit a bit slowly (as this model doesn't have Alexa built in. You have to type in (on the on-screen keyboard on your TV) the letters of the programme you wish to view.

  • Probably the best thing I’ve bought for years

By buying a Roku for myself in the living room and my kids in their bedrooms I have totally stopped any squabbling over the telly and saved a fortune in cable fees. You need to pay subscriptions on Netflix, Disney etc but all added together comes nowhere near what I was paying for virgin media...bloody brilliant! So easy to install, excepts all the channels we want and is compatible with amazon, Netflix, dismey+, now Tv, apple, acorn, rakuten...etc etc etc. Love Roku, highly recommended. The only thing was that when you’re setting them up putting all your emails and passwords in is time consuming, especially when you buy four, but it only has to be done once and off you go...Wonderful!

  • Easy to use

  • Good and cheap TV solutions

Initially it was very easy to set up but because we live in France the system presented us with French disclaimers and French selection of films on some platforms. This took ages to solve this by getting in touch with Netflix, Rakuten and other sites. It's a brilliant and compact streamer but most of the channels only offer paid for content despite proclaiming 'free' films. I primarily only wanted Live UK TV as and when we travel but once again only found a paid for service offering freview channels. I was very happy initially but now with all the chargeable channels I am less so. It might be possible to find these touted free film channels but it's a complex minefield. Ray.

  • Good HD Streamer (With Issues)

The Roku Express does everything you need it to do reasonably well. The apps are easy to access, Wifi (12' away from Router) is faultless and the remote works well (but needs line of sight to the box). Picture quality is very good. I found some of the main controls to be poor compared to my Roku Now Tv box - definitely a step back in that respect - so it loses one star.

  • Good device - well worth the money. Does what Roku claim.

Followed the instructions carefully. Connected power through a USB Y-connector (to provide enough current; turns on-and-off with the TV); used the in-built WIFI checker to position the device. Set up was straightforeward - no suprises. Works well with all available terestrial FreeView channels, free movie channels, and pay-per-view providers. Unobtusive (mounted under TV). Happy with this product, even though it is the 'base' model. (I bought this to replace the FreePlay function on my Humax DVR, which has stopped working at all with some channels, and is unreliable with the rest - in spite of doing a 'factory reset'). I did not need advice from Roku, but comments suggest they are very helpful if you need it.
