Lightweight with great features for little money.

The Uniden Bearcat is good value and provides a wide range of frequencies. As with most scanners the programming is not easy, however the instruction manual is comprehensive and with careful study programming is achieved in short order. The weak point is the audio. Obviously a small speaker in a compact scanner does suffer from lack of clarity. Use of headphones improves matters, and indeed is to be recommended for security in use. A plus point is the easy handling and lightness of the scanner, ideal when carrying around air shows for example. The charging time is 14 hours from empty batteries which is typical of type in my experience. So far I have not had enough time to see how long the charge lasts. A second set (2) of batteries would be useful, besides it will take standard non-chargeable although you have to select with a tiny switch in the battery compartment. So far I am pleased with the product and look forward to a long trouble free future. My previous scanner gave me over 25 years service!

Overly complex, useless without time wasting work and research

Having had several scanners over the years this is overly complex, doesn't work straight from the box as many others do and requires add on driver support for computer programming. Totally time wasting and frustrating, I'm fact useless without hours of research to get it to work.

  • Par Excellence !!

Looking to buy a scanner for some time as live quite near to Bristol Airport. Did my research and purchased the 125 XLT Bearcat Scanner. Have purchased Uniden products before and have always found them to be good. I purchased another dedicated aerial for it and boy does it bring in the Signal!! I would only use the rubber duck aerial if I was in very close proximity to an airport. Was over at Bristol Airport yesterday and was picking up air traffic 8 miles out with Tower to Aircraft as clear as a bell. Still finding my way about the scanner but it has to reveal its many secrets yet !!! All in All I would highly recommend this Scanner... 10/10

hope this helps u I'm very new to having a scanner bought it for listening to RAF aircraft as I live very close to RAF Bases which I have to try out with yet as my vehicle been off the road,iv sent for a hand book on traffic control to lean more about the wave bands & codes so I no what & who I'm listening to, I bought a small antenna which have put on top of my roof rack & I was amazed by what it picked up with civil aircraft but I have said I'm very new to this so soon as my hand book come in this week i'll be out there checking it out a bit more, but so far so good id recommend getting one as I'm having fun with mine hope this helps thanks Andy

  • SUPERB SCANNER

The Uniden 125XLT is an awesome little radio and I am extremely pleased that I bought it. I have been a radio listener most of my life and wanted to upgrade my scanner to one with alpha tagging and computer programming capability so that I could more easily manage the memories. I use the highly recommended and free programming software called scan125, and as soon as I had connected the radio up to the PC the software immediately recognised the radio and I was happily programming away in seconds. I only had one concern when I was choosing this radio and that was regarding battery life which I had read was less the average. I have been using the supplied 2300mah batteries and some eneloop 1900mah batteries and I have been charging them with a quality intelligent charger from technoline, the BL700 and it hasn't really been an issue for me. I'm estimating that the current drain of the radio is probably about 240ma with the backlight permanently off. You'll probably find that the drain is higher if you are scanning frequencies that are extremely active. But in reality this equates to several days use of the radio using it for about 2 to 3 hours of light use a day. If I were taking it to my local airport or an airshow I would take a couple of sets of charged batteries with me just in case I run out. It looks awesome, the display is nice and easy to read especially after my Maycom 108, it's nice to hold being neither too big or too small, and all in all I am extremely pleased with the purchase.

  • Good scanner

Bearcat 125 XLT is a great scanner once you master its operation. The supplied handbook although thorough is not really very user friendly to anyone new to scanning. However I found that you tube posts were much more informative and soon got up and running. Works best in fairly close proximity to airports although I found that using a dedicated longer aerial increased the range of operation considerably. This is a good scanner without doubt and far better than many of the cheaper options available which I have had the misfortune of owning. The belt clip seems tough enough for the job although a little tight. Expect a full charge from a flat battery to take about 12 hours plus with the supplied charger. However a full charge will easily last all day and longer without continuous use.

  • Uniden UBC125XLT - awesomely great scanner

It is easy to see why this is the most popular handheld scanner. Very compact, but packed with features. Lots of memories to store your favourite frequencies, which can be organised into banks (groups) for easy management and selection. Programming can be done directly on the handset or via a computer using a USB lead. Lots of software options, including some great free ones. Included are both CIVIL and MILITARY air band frequency ranges, great if you are an aviation enthusiast. It's worth getting the extra long, high gain aerial to receive signals from further away.

  • Essential kit for the enthusiast

This receiver is an excellent piece of kit for monitoring aviation frequencies etc. However it is a difficult job to input frequencies manually and you may want to purchase the ARC125 software at around £25 to make life much simpler. I would also recommend an earpiece when out on the ground.

  • Works a treat

Great radio, simple to use after a peruse of the manual. Belt clip is very strong. Seems pretty light on the batteries. Programming more than a handful of frequencies would get pretty tedious without the software. Highly recommended

  • Excellent scanner well worth a look at the price

This is a very well constructed excellent little radio, ideal for my interests which are VHF civilian air band and UHF military air. The close call feature also comes in handy when I am in town and there are still quite a few interesting frequencies to be heard in the most unlikely places. Over all a very worthwhile purchase at the price and I would recomend it to anyone.
