This thing rocks.
I did a bunch of research before buying, including Google searches and speaking to people who owned different types. I personally have experience with the Ryobi trash; don't bother. I was looking for an excuse to buy the Makita model since I have batteries already, but the reviews told me it probably wouldn't cut it on my heavily weeded property. So i broke down and bought the Milwaukee. Let me tell you, this can handle the job. They advertise an hour of run time but I dare you do drain this in an hour. It's more like three, which really impressed me. A company that actually UNDER advertises? Got my attn. The only cons are: it's a bit heavier than i expected and winding it is… interesting. I'm still learning that part and it could be operator error but it's not the easiest to figure out. On the plus side, it'll hold a LOT of string so there's no worries there. It has good knockdown power and two speeds, which is really nifty to me. Plus the savings on fuel and oil. Now, if i have a big job then yes, i'm going to my gas unit because clearly that 2-stroke is going to out weed any battery unit, at least as of this writing. But for normal, everyday stuff? Milwaukee 18volt weed eater
Thing is awesome. Has plenty of power to get the toughest weeds cut down. Not loud like a gas one and doesn’t vibrate like a gas one. Easy to handle and very easy to use. Built sturdy and not to heavy like others from you know who. 18volt battery last for about 30 min at full power and 45-60 min at the lower setting depending on how much trigger time your doing. Lower setting has more than enough power for the simple edging that must people will use this for but if you need it for a bigger job have no fear. "Great Trimmer Worth Every Penny!
Milwaukee M18 Fuel 16 inch Straight Shaft String Trimmer is so nice to use. its light weight and easy to wield and the grass is far enough away from my legs it don't hurt as bad when debris hit my leg as my bent shaft trimmer. The battery last plenty long enough to go around my house and garden and side walks even on high. I might buy another battery that is what I been wanting to do for a while now for my other tools for a back up but I didn't need it anyway. It not a bad idea to wear safety glass or sun glasses or something it will occasionally kick up gravel or rocks. They all do. I would recommend getting this trimmer. Couldn’t be more satisfied!
Since I switched to Milwaukee battery powered hand tools, I have been pleased with the quality and ability to hold charge of the batteries. I had almost every tool brand “R” produced but the batteries, including their Lithium ion upgrades, wouldn’t hold charge and had a ridiculously short life span. I got fed up buying new batteries all the time. I started with the Milwaukee M18 1/2” impact gun and was so pleased that I gave my 12 tool set of the other tools to my son and started adding the M18 line to my shop. Got tired of trying to yank recoil starters so ordered the weed whacker minus battery. I love it. It goes through the 4 amp hr battery in half an hour or so but it is break time by then anyway. Eventually I will purchase the 9 or 12 amp hr pac and a pole saw for my palm trees. My only dissapointment is the fact my Ryobi attachments won’t connect and I have several of those. I use my D R walk behind trimmer for the open areas and the Milwaukee for edging and trimming around landscaping. String lasts a very long time as well.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

4 stars! Would be 5, but the guard is too small!
The product is of excellent build quality which leaves you wondering why the guard is sooooo small🤔. Precision weed-eating is fantastic with the 18v Milwaukee system and leaves you without the shaking from using a gas weed eater or the smell! Would’ve been 5 stars, but the guard is just right where all the weeds you cut can slam Back at you and hot your legs. So wear pants my friends with this one!
